The UnderWorlde

Introduction

The vast caverns of the UnderWorlde entice all those who see it. Rich with minerals, precious ores and dazzling secrets, the UnderWorlde is home to a vast array of deadly creatures, suited to living in such a harsh environment. Despite it's lush and charming appearance, these cave systems are a known death trap. The Underworlde is an expansive cave system, so immense that it is regarded as a separate continent. The laws of gravity and magic work differently in each sector, making survival here even harder. The sprawling cave system has many, many entances and exits, but beware. Entering could mean your last time seeing daylight.

Geography

Majority of the Below is composed languid sprawling plains, littered with terrainous cliff outcrops which drop down to a deadly lava system. Throughout the continent, massive mountains rich with minerals and gemstones appear. Fresh water is found alongside the seven main rivers which flow through the location, eventually falling down and mixing with the lava.   Despite its seemingly dangerous and harsh looks, the UnderWorlde has simplistic beauty. The combination of magic, runes and natural laws which apply nowhere else result in an enticing environment. The power of the Ancients lie strongly here, the reason though being never found.

Natural Resources

Mineral's and Ores

The UnderWorlde is perhaps, most famously known for its minerals and ores. Littered within the earth and rock lie thousands and thousands of precious gemstones and jewels, some of which can not be found anywhere else. Most notable mentions are Freidrye, a glossy amber coloured gem, and the obscure Nyx Obsidian Stones.

Food

One of the most toughest challenges in the Below is fiinding food. For some species, such as Orcs and Darke Elves, it is easy as they are carnivourous and hunt mammals. For others, such as the humble Oryphyll, or the bumbling Sclere, it is perhaps the hardest thing that they will ever do.   Food in the Underworlde comes in the form of both meat and crops. Orophyll's, a sheep-like animal is the main source of meat. The Sclere, a type of native fish provide carnivores with a different source of protein and food.   Crops and herbs that grow in the Underworlde are few, as the land is dusty and the dirt is dry and humid. Mostly, potatoes, beans, carrots, wyths (an onion-like vegetable) and turnips can grow. Majority of the herbs found in the UnderWorlde cannot be eaten raw,and must be prepared alongside with other sources of food.

Building and Crafting

Crimson Oak Trees are plentiful through the vast forest expanses.

History

The Great Quake was the catalyst for the entire world seperate to what we know it as today. Before, it is suspected that the UnderWorlde was seperate caverns, and that the Quake led to the merging and collision of these seperate systems. That would explain the several rocky collapses scattered throughout the Below.   As time passed on, the heat and the maegic interacted. This led to visable unique mutations. Seedlings which were fotunate enough to grow were affected by the maegic and humidity, causing their famous cimson colour.   The first flora spred as pollen and seedlings flew through the entrances. About 200 years later, the cavern floor was lush with flora.   Orcs began to take the cavern as their home around 2000 years after the Quake. The Darke Elves followed about 527 years later, bringing Oryphyll's with them.

Tourism

Not many tourists visit the UnderWorlde. It is a dangerous place, almost inhabitable to the general population of Above-World species. Exits and entrances are protected with maegic, and are obscurely hidden. Those who venture here are in search for minerals, wish to collect rare herbs, or try (and fail) to find the home of the Darke Elves.
