Mythos Calamus

Tnar, king of the dragonborn, gently handled the calamus. It was beautiful; the nib a bright, striking, white and the feather an iridescent green. He was afraid to set it to paper but did so anyway. In careful monotony he wrote out the Legend of Tora, an old story that was told to him by his father. Finally, he had finished. He lay the calamus down and waited. Slowly, the air around him started to shimmer. Vague images started to appear. His surroundings changed to rolling hills. In the distance he saw a dark figure rising from the sunset. He looked around and found he couldn't move his feet. Out of the corner of his eye he saw a dragonborn (it must be Tora he thought) riding an Undai. He looked back towards the now faint sun and saw that the figure was now almost upon them. His black armor shone and was surrounded with a dark magic. He could feel it. Who was this? The figure had a white head but no face. Come to think of it, neither did what he thought was Tora. The figure drew a sword. It's blade was red, whether from the real color of it or blood he did not know. He looked behind and saw Tora riding swiftly towards the figure. Then he felt a cold, hard gaze. He turned and found that the white figure was staring at him. He could not hold the gaze. Some dark, dark magic surrounded it. He felt tears in his eyes. He, Tnar slayer of beasts, was truly and utterly scared. He felt the sword pierce his side for only a millisecond. He opened his eyes. He was back in his study and Ynar was running towards him. He almost felt like he still had a sword in his side.

The Mythos Calamus

The Mythos Calamus is a quill that was lost by Tnar, king of the dragonborn, in the Rayless Age during the first years of the war. It was a magical quill, that needed no ink. If a legend was written with it, a mirage of the legend would appear for a moment.

Origin

The origin of the Calamus is unknown, although it is widely accepted that it was made long before the Rayless Age by a dragonborn sorcerer. The dwarves have never been in possession of the Calamus. The Calamus has always been passed down through the dragonborn kings.

Inner Workings

When being used, the Calamus does not need ink. It will only accept legends that are true. Of course, this made it very useful for scholars. When the mirage appears, it only lasts for a moment. The user cannot move and all characters are faceless. The mirage can end prematurely if the user is killed during it.

Disappearance

The Calamus was lost by Tnar at the beginning of the war when he faced the Elfe. It is unknown if it was taken by the Elfe, stolen, or just merely lost during the battle. A search was led immediately after the battle, but the quill was never found.
