Jade Ethnicity in Neria | World Anvil

Jade (ya-day)

Technically encompassing two ethnicities, the Jade populate the largest portion of the continent. It is said that two of The Old Magi were Jade, a topic of contention as the Querian Empire claims that one of those was the Sixth Magi responsible for the Eternal Night, whereas the Jade claim the Sixth Magi was in fact Querian.   Nonetheless, the Jade once populated half of the continent, before the Querian Empire conquered a large part of the land and claimed it as their own. Due to this there is a long, violent history of rivalry between the two cultures, especiallt the Querians and the Ero-Jade, who directly share a border.   Jade can be identified by their soft, rounded features and hooded or lidless eyes. Their hair is generally kept in neat, practical styles, sometimes decorated with small trinkets or flowers, and their skin has warm undertones that can range from pale beige to deep umber.

Ero-Jade

The Ero-Jade are the largest, most well-known sub-ethnic group of Jade. They are known for being staunch believers in The Old Magi, considering them to be the livable ideal and thus have a huge focus on intelligence and collective knowledge. Their libraries are enormous, some spanning the size of villages, containing logs, stories and written histories of all who live nearby. Discovered Magi are sent to boarding schools where they remain for the rest of their days to learn and grow, hoping to find the new Magi Lords they believe to be destined to retake the Old Magi's mantle.

Ankh-Jade

The Ankh-Jade are the sub-ethnic group who primarily hail from the southwest of the continent. Though they share the Ero-Jade's belief in the Old Magi as living Gods, they reject modern Magi as corrupted fragments of their power and instead focus on gaining collective knowledge. For this reason many Magi will present themselves to be studied, the origin of their powers probed, and are forbidden from actively using their power outside of controlled spaces.
