Taelhand Mage Consortium Campus

While there are structures belonging to the Mage's Consortium all over Galdorloth, the one in Taelhand is the largest of them and is generally considered to be the central location. As it is also the location for the largest mage training facility in the city, it's also known as the Consortium University.

Purpose / Function

For centuries, mages have tended to keep with their fellow mages. Since even before the first Galdor declared himself emperor, an association of mages known as a consortium has been in Taelhand.  That consortium has maintained a presence in the city since then, and while they have transferred to different buildings throughout the centuries, they have been in their current location for around 120 years.

Alterations

Originally a large merchant mansion near the scenic western cliffside of the city, it has since expanded to a multi-building campus that spans about the size of a whole city block. There are several additions, both upward and outward, onto the main building, as well as seperate buildings, built in a matching style, added on the campus surrounding it.
A large tower on the front corner of the campus stands as the tallest building in Taelhand, and is used for both sending and receiving magical transmissions from mage consortium towers in other cities in Galdorloth. This, like towers in other cities, was built at the demand of the emperor for assurance that he could communicate across his empire faster than ships or people coudl travel.

Architecture

The architectural style of the buildings is what might now be considered outdated, but was popular at the time of construction. The facade of the buildings are flat faced, black marble with carved columns and frames on doors and windows. The black marble itself was chosen for its ability to absorb magical energies, rather than let it pass through. As it near a cliffside, there is always a threat of erosion that may cause the land beneath the campus to become unstable. There are visibly magically charged magical support systems in place to keep the land safe.
