Naming Traditions
Family names
Typically, the Chari names are derived from nature, such as Rose or Wolf. Chari are named at the age of 2.
Culture
Culture and cultural heritage
The Chari live in large groups throughout their homeland known as clans. Members of each clan hunt and care for their own clan as a family, with a leader overseeing the well being of a clan. Most leaders appoint a second in command as a successor. Clans have usually about 70 to 120 people, and clans usually claim a decent amount of surrounding territory for hunting. Relations between clans can vary greatly from actively hostile to sharing land, although most are very territorial.
Shared customary codes and values
The Chari follow a common code of rules held by the leaders of each clan. Those who break the code are punished or in severe cases, exiled.
Art & Architecture
Most Chari buildings are constructed with a basic structure of cut wood for walling and thatching of grasses or other materials. Doors are usually made from hanging pieces of woven straw.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
Typically, Chari rely on hunting as a main source of food, taking pride in ones ability to hunt or craft. Often, they'll raise animals to train and use, usually horses or dogs. Some clans have been known to culture crops.
Coming of Age Rites
Around the age of 7, a Chari is typically apprenticed to a specific role. Warriors, the most numerous, learn hunting and other necessary skills, and healers often learn the uses of herbs and other plants. Some clans have other designated roles such as a craftsmen or agrarians. Apprentices usually complete their apprenticeships around the age of 16 and are expected to become active parts of the clan's well being.
Common Taboos
Upon completing apprenticeship, it is customary to take a public oath to serve one's own clan and protect those in need (which is usually understood to be children or elders in need without regard to clan relationships). Although not necessary, those who publicly give their oath are held in great esteem, but those who break the oath are considered outcasts, untrustworthy traitors who aren't accepted into any clan.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Very little thought is put into physical appearance, with the main focus being practicality.
Relationship Ideals
Generally, Chari consider relationships with other races to be taboo. Once they have chosen a partner, they usually have a child and raise it among their clan. It's considered important to be loyal to a spouse no matter what.
