Candelabra night

Occuring on the fourth day of the hawkmoth (equivilent to 10th Manet in the Tariksani calendar, mid to late may in our calendar), Candelabra night is recognised by all the nations that contain part of Erillintski, but usually participated in by only the occupants of the spires region. It involves a competition; to climb higher than anyone else up one of the seven spires and light a fire there at midnight. These fires are considered to signify the balance of powers through the region, and several of the organisations within it have distinctive colours in their flames. As such, it is fircely competed, with allegations of murder between teams a common occurance.

Execution

Traditionally, each group of participants must leave the base of the respective spire at sunset and no earlier, although usually firewood and provisions will be stashed further up the mountain in the days before. Whilst the tradition has no actual rules, no respect will be gained by someone who is assumed or alledged to have flouted this aspect of it. Out of respect, or by wisdom, the tribes of the region make no attempt on Quori Peak, as here is where the main shrine to Perrili is located, so considered highly sacred by Perrilians.

Participants

The usual participants are the main powers of the region: four semi-nomadic tribes, three fiendish cults, and four sects of the perrillian religion. In the past, local nations have been known to participate in an attempt to win favour with the people there, but never to much sucess. The actual climbers of the spires are generally called torchbearers, although each group participating usually has it's own honourary title for the position. It is considered an honour, as is often highly dangerous.
