Dragons
Basic Information
Anatomy
Dragons are quadrupedal creatures with wings that can also be used for ambulation, much like bats.
Genetics and Reproduction
Dragons are a parthenogenic species -- all members are biologically capable of producing young, without sexual intercourse. Their young hatch from eggs, and are usually reared one or two at a time, although some dragons have been known to overcome their isolationist tendencies to rear larger groups of young together.
Ecology and Habitats
The preferred habitat of a dragon is one with plenty of elevated areas to build a roost, but with plentiful access to game such as deer, goats, gazelle, etc.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Dragons are carnivores, and use their inner fire to cook their kills before eating. This allows them to drive much more nutrition from their meals than if they were eaten raw, fueling their intelligence and magical aptitude.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Dragons are typically considered to be very solitary species -- at least in comparison to mortals living in concentrated, highly stratified societies. However, they are not without their own social practices and bonds. Dragons are known to form lifelong friendships, and will fly regularly over great distances to visit friends and loved ones, bringing gifts of treasure or information, both of which are highly prized.
It is of course also common for dragons to get into territorial disputes with each other, or with mortals. These disputes can be quite difficult to resolve, as compromise can be difficult or impossible. While combat between dragons will usually result in one of the dragons submitting to the other and keeping their distance, conflict with mortals can turn deadly, and have historically resulted both in mortals hunting and killing dragons, and in dragons terrorizing mortal communities to extract tribute.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Dragons are found wherever there are mountains to roost in and animals to hunt. Their species is ancient, and has time to disperse throughout most of the world.
Average Intelligence
Dragons are extremely intelligent -- a prerequisite for using magic.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Dragons have powerful magic capabilities, and are capable of extrasensory perception.

Common Dress Code
Dragons do not wear clothes.
Lifespan
