King of Doruna

The real reason for using king and queen in this way is that I have not created words in the language that they speak yet, so the title of this article will change once I have actual words for this. For now "king" = top monarch and "queen" = spouse of the top monarch.
While "king" is typically a gendered designation in English and on Earth, it is used here simply to signify the top monarch and is not gendered. The spouse is the "queen," also not a gendered designation.

Qualifications

The previous king needs to be either dead or incapacitated. The preceding king can select the order the children should be in line for the throne in. If an order was not selected, the oldest child is first in line for the throne, unless the royal court determines that they are also incapacitated.

Requirements

Their parent must be a previous king. It is preferred that the most recently preceding king be their parent, but sometimes a king has no eligible children who can take the throne, so one of that king's siblings becomes the new king.

Appointment

The royal court performs or orders a coronation ceremony. During times when religion is dominant or important for the people to accept the king, a religious leader may perform the coronation ceremony in lieu of the royal court.

Duties

They oversee all aspects of the government of Doruna. They have the final say on military, economy, infrastructure, education, etc. throughout Doruna. This includes delegating tasks to the royal court, advisors, or specialists.

Benefits

Priority access to food, resources, and education. They have four guards that are on all-hours rotation to protect them specifically. They have personal attendants.

Accoutrements & Equipment

A crown, a bracelet for each wrist, and a necklace are placed on the king during the coronation ceremony, and they are expected to wear them during all meetings with the royal court, the public, or anytime that they are "on duty," which is pretty frequent.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The royal court can replace the king if they find them to be unfit or incapacitated, often due to age or health concerns. The royal court will call a meeting and evidence for the king being unfit will be presented. The king will have a chance to respond to the evidence. The royal court will then vote and with at least a 3/4 majority, the king will be deemed unfit.   In all other circumstances, the king's reign only ends with their death.

History

One of the kings commissioned Mivarek Services to provide security for the prisons. This lead to tacit approval of some of the questionable treatment of prisoners that Mivarek Services enacted on Helfyr.
