Tech Lowdown

In the year 2520, technology is highly developed. Spaceships can transport you anywhere in the galaxy in a matter of hours, gene therapy can extend your youth to hundreds of years, and in those years you can experience joys and pleasures undending, from fully immersive VR experiences, robotic slaves that serve your every whim, and being able to see every vista imaginable.
If you're rich.
You aren't. You don't have those luxuries. Your lifespan is the same as it was in the 21st century, if you're lucky. Space transport, gene therapy, immersive VR and most other luxuries are cost prohibitive to all but the top 0.001% of people. The most advanced technology you guys see and regularly use are holo-tech, hovercraft, and galactic internet.
Of course... in your line of work, you might use more 'practical' technology. Railguns are by far the dominant form of weaponry. Pistols able to fire flechettes that hit as hard as a .50 caliber sniper rifle, and larger weapons being able to easily put holes in walls. Body armor ranges from impact absorbing chestplates that can stop pistol rounds, to personal shield generators that can stop virtually anything before they overload.
