Session Twenty Report

General Summary

The party makes preparations in town by stocking up on necessary items. While that is going on Zappa and Guldrun go into the library to find a locate object spell. By the time the spellbook was found, Guldrun was badly wounded and went back to the manor to alert the others instead of fighting in the last battle. By the time he found everyone Zappa was walking out of the library with the news that he found a spell that would help find the prisoners when the party gets to Highfell. That news was given to the party along with the information that a war was going on between the librarians and mind flayers and it seemed that multiple members of the party were confused and/or distrusting of Zappa for going in alone.   Nevertheless the party, armed with new information, went into the library again knowing that they needed to travel five rooms to make it to Highfell. Multiple members found loot in the rooms leading to Highfell. In the fifth room the party ran into Finn, a researcher from Bearsboast, that was hiding because he was hearing voices in his head. At that moment the party was ambushed by two mind flayers and a hulking insect creature. They proclaimed that they used the locate object spell to find Zappa and wanted him and the book for taking the life of their companion. This led to a battle where the party was able to deal with the three enemies and told Finn that he needs to be careful on his way back out of the library.   The party gets back to the same room in Highfell and Zappa walks to the portal and casts a locate object spell focusing on the bracelet of the prince and knows that it is not in range of the spell. He then walks into the portal to get transported to another part of Highfell and gets a ping. After waiting for some of the party to get through the portal he lets them know that it is within 1,000 feet and starts heading that way. On the way there, gnoll footprints are spotted and it ends up being a battle with 8 gnolls and chimera. One gnoll is put to sleep by Authur to question while the others are killed or flee as the chimera is dealt with. The gnoll has the bracelet of the prince and tells the party that the slaves are being held to the northeast in an ebony tower before he is killed.   The party crosses a river, gets a long rest, and encounters acid rain before getting to the tower. When they get to the tower there is a magical symbol that has a radius effect of the heat metal spell. With this information in hand, anyone that has metal wraps it in a lot of cloth or leaves it at outfront of the tower. While this is going on, Lady Alexis goes to the right side of the tower to unlock and get inside. She is surprised to find a cool place in the tower next to a design of ice and opens a secret door exposing an elemental that looks angry. A battle begins with a dust elemental and then a large fire elemental. The party is able to deal with both enemies and find a wand and a warhammer with ice enchanted into them before the double doors to the next room are opened. Then two creatures that look to be made from lava stand there as a very large efreeti stand in the room. Lady Alexis talks to the efreeti and learns that his name is Musalgot boasting about how powerful he is. Musalgot, still not happy that the party has killed his two elementals, offers that the party could start to work for him and help get more slaves to take back his world. Multiple party members look to move towards the exit and Arnarra, the elf looking for the prince, looks to enter battle. Luckily Lady Alexis is able to get her to stand down for the moment, but the party is left in a tough spot not being able to equip everything in the tower and not being at full health, but not wanting to leave the hostages.
