He was the ruler of the sea and second only to his brother Zeus in power and eminence. He was an all important god, as the Greeks on all sides of The Agäis were seafaring and needed his goodwill to cross the ocean without the loss of life or ship. Eventhough he had a splendid Palace underneath the se, he prefered to spend his time on Olympus. He is also known for giving the first horse to men and was worshipped for this deed as much as he was worshipped for his rule of the ocean.
