{{REDACTED}} Medical Hall

The Medical Hall is located on the top three floors of Loyal Park, one of the most exclusive office addresses in the middle of Drum Valley. Despite its name, it is actually a hospital attached to the Wizard's Department (WD), which is headquartered in the same building. This allows it to enjoy some of the most cutting-edge technology and medicine access available in the region, which far outstrips most other facilities in the Muddy Estuary. It is most often used by WD personnel and their family, though VIPs and offworld visitors have been known to make use of its services as well.

Formation

The Medical Hall was formed in the very early days of the Gooseberry Sultanate. It had existed in various forms before that, but mainly as a loose understanding and gathering of healers, herbalists and animal handlers who would go to extremes to either discover new and rare diseases or injuries and attempt to cure it, or to challenge each other to save as many lives as possible. Most only settled down after being a parent for the first time and rarely left the location where they had their first child. Most progenies who displayed a talent for medicine were sent out wandering much as their parents had. However, an unnamed Sultan created the hall after being saved by such a progeny, who had grown tired of not having a nice bed to lay their head down.   Originally the Sultan created the Medical Hall as a rest stop for wandering healers, offering them board and food to provide consultation services to the populace as and when they desired. Soon, however, it grew from having only bedrooms, a large dining hall and semi-private consultation rooms to featuring a fully-stocked herbal garden, academic lecture halls, and crude (by our current standards) operating rooms.   It was at this point that a Bunian prince was brought to the Medical Hall for treatment. The prince had fallen into a particularly nasty trap, and his people had heard that one of the healers in the Medical Hall was also a half-jinn, secretly working to accumulate enough merit points to go back to his people. The jinn agreed to treat the prince, and the prince survived though with an unusual scar across his back. Shortly after, more of the "fair folk" as the Reconquista called them, began seeking the jinn for medical help.   Faced with such a high number of patients, the jinn sought the help of their colleagues. The Sultan's daughter, whose aunt was a legendary sorceress, heard of this and then proceeded to take the maintenance of the hospital under her wing. Together with the jinn, they drafted the initial rules of treatment for all humans and bunian who came to the Medical Hall. Secretly, the Princess took the opportunity to start nurturing a group of sensitives to practice magic and witchcraft. The Orang Puteri, as they called themselves, became field medics when the Gooseberry Sultanate began their conquest of the Peninsula. Over time, it became the norm for wizards, witches and other magic practitioners and creatures to seek the Orang Puteri for medical and healthcare.   When the Gooseberry Empire fell, its survivors fled to the safety of Wurawari, the southernmost tip of the peninsula. The Medical Hall, reeling from the attack brought onto it by the sick civilians it had been treating, changed its focus to working together with the Orang Puteri and the military. The Orang Puteri eventually grew to become the Jabatan Sihir (Magic Department), but the Medical Hall has never been divorced from it since.

Services

The Medical Hall is an extremely modern facility that prizes efficiency in healing above all else. The lowest floor is dedicated to outpatient facilities, the apothecaries and an outdoor garden that grows some of the rarest herbs found in the region. A large majority of the staff here are either mortal or half-mortals with the occasional orang bunian supervisor. The second floor is 35% assessment rooms and facilities, with wards, admin offices and day surgery taking up the rest of the space. It can be hard to tell whether your doctor is a normal human here. The third floor has a helipad and is where most of the ER and operating theatres are. This room sees the most trauma and extreme injury cases, with an average of two cases per day.
