Atelieri Medica Building / Landmark in Mrs. Kahuna's Library | World Anvil

Atelieri Medica

Established by the mender Drake Jasper and his wife, Ruby, the Atelieri Medica is world-renown for its unique artistry utilizing only organic methods of healing. Located in the center of the city of Redfield, the architecture of the edifice is unique to say the least! Drake, a fan of Gothic styling, and Ruby, a fan of the modern clean lines, argued heatedly over which style to select.  In the end, their architect, Edward Block, was able to meld the desires of the couple.     The tallest structure in Redfield has the enormous stained glass windows and pointed arches in its top storey that are characteristic of Drake's Gothic whimsy but lacks the detailed ornamentation associated with the same. The roof line is reminiscent of Westminster Abbey, with a large, square stained glass rendering of a Dolgo Crabapple Tree offering shade to a bed of Chamomile. The window faces south, offering a plethora natural light to pass through the rich shades of crimson, verdant green, magenta, pale pink, and gold while casting beautiful mosaics on the glossy white tile of the lobby. The Jaspers selected the Crabapple Tree as it symbolizes love and fertility, one of the main reasons people seek the Atelieri's services.  Most couples visiting the Atelieri Medica hold the dream of a child in their hearts as they enter the doors, passing beneath this beautiful window.  Ruby added the bed of Chamomile below the tree as its flower message is "may all your dreams and wishes be fulfilled".   Ruby absolutely vetoed the gargoyles Drake wanted to flank the entrance, fearing they would send the wrong message to their patrons.  Drake argued that the gargoyles would ward off the evil spirits and protect the patrons.  Ruby believed the gargoyles would remind patrons of the evil in the world and make them afraid to enter. In accordance with Ruby's modern taste, the clean lines and sharp edges she favored were incorporated in the lower storey of the building. The entire building is crisp white, symbolizing the hope of a new beginning to all who enter and seek the healing of the Jaspers.
