The Guali

Guali means "the Children of Guatu", and the Guali tried everyday to live up to that name. Bright eyed and quick to smile, the Guali stood at around 5 feet at the tallest with the shortest adults being around 4 feet in most cases. Their bronze skin would shine exposed to the sun since most Guali chose to wear very little clothing. Bare chested, they wore loincloths and wrapped themselves in short skirts made from hides they took from the deerlings they hunted in the jungle. Running bare foot through the trails all the Guali learned to hunt and gather at an early age. Bow and quiver strapped across their back and a machete at their side the Guali carved trails through their jungle paradise with ease. The machete was of particular importance, a versatile tool with many uses it's biggest role was in agriculture where it was use as an axe, plow and even as a shovel. The one thing it was not used for was as a weapon. To use a gift forged in the fires of Mount Guatu for violence was sacrilege. Though war was foreign to the Guali, when small conflicts did arise, they were resolved with fists or the hard wooden sticks called "macanas".   Music was an important part of Guali culture. At sundown everyday the Guali would gather around the fire pit of their village bringing with them every instrument they had. Drums of stretched hide or metal were the most common but whistles and flutes of wood and bone could also be heard at most gatherings. Everyone was taught to dance and sing and stories were told as food was passed around without much notice of who it was passed to. Everyone ate together, sang together and danced together whether they were related to each other or not. This was all before the dark times of course. Before all the fires began dying out.
