Hedon Peaks

The Dwarves of the Hedon Peaks are the last of their kind, hunted almost to extinction by the Orcs of Morad. Before the Orcish crusade, the four Dwarven King Families were spread out across the four large continents of Morad, the Flintcoat Family from Anor, the Hillspine Family from Zeferon, the Flintcoat Family from Tandris, and the Underback Family from Diozan. The four Families have been forced into the long mountain range of the Flintcoats, were they spend their days rebuilding their numbers, planning defenses against the Orcs, and figuring out how to re-establish themselves in the world. While the mountain range is long, there wasn't enough room for the few thousand dwarves that survived to live in the natural cave structures. Luckily a large deposit of Danmid was found deep inside the caverns, a powerful magnetic substance that has a uniquely malleable property.   The King Families all have different strategies and ideas about how they should combat the Orc threat. THe Hillspine Family believes that they should fortify their mountain and make damn sure the Orcs can't penetrate the Hedon Peaks. The Flintcoat Family wants to use the Danmid material to make powerful weapons that the Dwarves can use to attack the Orcs. The Deepgrog Family insists that reintegration into other powerful societies is how they keep themselves alive, spread their history and their culture into the nearby Humans or Dragonborn towns. The Underback Family are trying to catch up on lost time in the fields of research and knowledge, greater minds mean more solutions to the species' problems.

Geography

Dwinlar is a massive mountain range, the longest in Morad, that separates the Emerian Corner in Tandris. The mountain range doesn't reach high enough for many of them to get snowfall except during the middle of winter. Throughout the Peaks, there are many steep and sharp falls that make moving through the range quite dangerous.

Fauna & Flora

Almost no plants grow on the Hedon Peaks except Glacium, a rare magical flower that grows in the coldest places.

Natural Resources

The largest deposits of Danmid in all of Morad can be found in the mountains of Dwinlar. The peculiar metal is very rare in other parts of the world but the abundance of it and other precious gems in the mountain range keep the Dwarven inhabitants wealthy enough for them to sustain trade without having to leave the safety of their mountain caves often. In recent years, a powerful arcane presence has appeared on the mountain and appears to be in communication with the Dwarves of the area. The almost nonexistent [Goblin] population has also increased around the same time as this powerful magician appeared. These Goblins can be seen throughout the Dwarven tunnels and occasionally following trade routes to the neighboring cities offering the Dwarven wares for coin.
