Gerudo Nation

Structure

The Gerudo Nation is overseen by a chieftain, and each of the five regions has a chief that reports to the chieftain. However, given the nomadic and independent nature of many Gerudo communities, it is widely understood that leaders such as these do not have complete control over how people go about living their lives.

History

The Gerudo people emerged at an unknown point after the emergence of the Hylian people. There has long been contention over whether or not the Gerudo Desert is under the jurisdiction of Hyrule and its royal family, leading to several conflicts and wars, and during the Era of Time, Ganondorf's presence and takeover of Hyrule soured relations for generations. In the present, however, the Gerudo Nation exists as an entirely separate power from Hyrule.

Religion

Gerudo religion is monotheistic and they worship the Colossus of the Sands. In ancient times, many Hyruleans presumed that the monolithic statue carved into the Spirit Temple was an idol and the focus of their worship, but just like the many statues of the Goddess Hylia across Hyrule, this figure was simply a representation of their deity. The Spirit Temple is actually the only temple for the Gerudo religion in existence, and it would be considered sacrilegious to erect any other stationary place of worship to the Colussus.
