Gerudo Canyons

Geography

The Gerudo Canyons carve through the mountainous highlands that form the border between Hyrule and the Gerudo Nation. They are formed of reddish sandstone, and although there is a "main" canyon that now houses highway the connects the two countries, there are many branching splits and ravines.

History

The canyons were actually the home of the Gerudo people during the lean decades that gave their people the reputation as "thieves" that was prominent during the Era of Time. During that time, the population was exceptionally small and resources were scarce, and so the entire nation moved into the canyons, where Hyrule was closer and the climate was less extreme. However, after the reign of Ganondorf and his eventual death at the hands of the Hero of Time, the Sage Nabooru guided her people back to the desert, where they eventually flourished. For their role in the survival of their people, the Gerudo still look to the canyons with respect, but the desert forever calls to them as their true home. That being said, there are still small settlements scattered throughout the canyons to this day.
