Treyl

Treyl

Treyl (House Guard)

tray'-il, , is a Davrin Elf born of the Twelfth House in Sivaraus

Treyl is a Guardsvrin with a balanced temperament and competent martial training, serving Matron Rohenvi Thalluen. He possesses a calm demeanor and handsome face with attractive garnet-colored eyes which have rarely seen him go long without an interested Davrin signaling for companionship. Raised by a permissive sire and with only the most egregiously sadistic sexual acts punished by the Matron Thalluen, Treyl considers propositions from either sex and feels no conflict in accepting.

Background

Treyl was raised by his sire and an older common matron he knew wasn't his birth mother. He knew even before he was old enough to learn the cait who'd birthed him was dead and understand what that meant. Although it took time and courage to gather comparisons outside his small family, by the end of his second decade, the bua had figured out that the commoners Detri and Teyshuna may have created a strong, safe den for mutual protection and companionship, but Treyl was the sole reason they'd done it.

The strong female and her clever male companion acted as matron-and-sire in public but, back home, the two never once shared the same bed, nor did Teyshuna try to give commands to Detri like other matrons. The two were comfortable and agreeable with each other, uncomplaining as they shared the work surrounding a child and defended what was theirs shoulder-to-shoulder, but Teyshuna did not seem to be planning for Treyl's future as he'd heard the other mothers discuss, horrid as it sounded at times.

Between the two of them, Treyl felt safe and cared for, accepting he was much luckier than some of the other caits and buas in Sivaraus. Yet the frequent remarks of how much he resembled Detri yet had none of Teyshuna in his young face, and both of them shrugging it off, offering no glimpse into what came before their tidy living arrangement, would allow a vague, unsettled pain to linger for decades at the back of his mind.

Especially when it came time for Detri and Teyshuna to find another place for him before they would both disappear.

Current

When he'd been sold and brought to House Thalluen, Treyl was still too young to have much chance at surviving alone. This was the only reason he ultimately did not run away to find his sire, though the impulse nearly overwhelmed him several times during the first turn.

Treyl stayed with the children of the House Guard because that was where he would survive now. They and their parents were a large, active, sometimes raucous collective, with a mix of caits and buas who displayed long-standing familiarity with each other and a shared past and purpose stretching back centuries. Compared to his origin, he envied them.

In time, though, the young bua matured alongside them, adopted their purpose and their challenges, endured the many frustrations, arguments, and fights for the security and strong leadership in the Matron Thalluen and her brother, First Son Azed. Treyl came of age among the House Guard, was trained by them, and enjoyed the pride and confidence of a strong House with a young and bold Matron.

The first two Daughters born to Matron Rohenvi, however, began the long and slow decline of that security and the rising disillusionment that the Nobles were somehow better than the commoners to have their wealth and control. His shock and disbelief following the clear murder of Azed and the injustice of Jilrina Thalluendara evading scrutiny from the Red Sisters, suffering no consequences for her actions, sent him and most of the rest of the House into despair. As an added slap in the face, the Sancutary would later only reaffirm Jilrina's "new blood" given to Thalluen, "yet to reach its potential."

The apparent sweeping under the rug of the death of their most important male of the House struck a deep blow to Treyl for how much any bua's life was worth. His Matron's response was to placidly announce the coming of her third Daughter. Treyl might have left then, might have taken his chances out in the wilderness or back where he was raised, if he hadn't glimpsed Detri sneaking around on the plantation the eve that Third Daughter Sirana was born.

The son confronted his sure sire for the first time in a century and a half.

"You're still alive? What in the Queen's ass are you doing here?"

Future visits with his aging and incredibly resilient sire were inspiring and would help the young Guardsvrin appreciate what he had a bit more, while he had it.
