Cris-ri-phon Character in Miurag | World Anvil

Cris-ri-phon

Cris-ri-phon (a.k.a the Godblood, the Deathless)

(krihs'-ree-fahn), , was a Zauyrian prince and second son to the ruling Third Sorcerer of the Zauyrian Realms, Begir-al-phon. His mother died in childbirth, and he was mostly raised by servants and his older brother, Leur-en-phon, the heir of the Third Realm, in The Red Desert.

Cris-ri-phon was a strong and handsome example of his race, taller than Paxian men but shorter than Kurgan, with black hair, coppery brown skin, and eyes the color of steel. He was born with two magical affinities: life magic and death magic. While referred to as a "Godblood" for this quality, the struggle to balance these two powerful gifts would define both his life and existence beyond.

Background

Most of what is known about Cris-ri-phon has come through mindlinks and mystic's dreams stirred by Sirana.

Spoiler for Book 5: "Black Witch, Death Mage".

At the age of twenty, at the sacred site of Koorul, he met the Davrin Qu’eesan Innathi. Although originally present for a death magic ritual with his tutor, the Deathwalker Houda, Cris-ri-phon is seduced beneath the waterfall and couples with the Davrin Qu’eesan, fully awakening his life and fertility magic in an abrupt clash with his training. This struggle for balance brings about centuries of choices with dire consequences.

At an unknown age, Cris-ri-phon becomes the Sorcerer-General of the Davrin Queendom, and Consort to the Virgin Queen Innathi Aurenthina. He claims to remember at least twelve Human-Davrin hybrid children conceived with him and birthed by his Queen. He also seems aware of some treachery by the hand of the Seer Ishuna, Innathi’s younger sister. He blames Ishuna for the Queendom’s downfall and the death of his children.

Current

Spoiler for Book 5: "Black Witch, Death Mage".

Cris-ri-phon first arose to consciousness in Troshin Bend as a soul sharing the same body with the governor of a logging town, Brom Troshin, who also has a half-Ma’ab daughter, Amelda.

For purposes unclear to him, the new Deathwalker Gavin has referred to him as the Deathless. He also recognizes the name of Gavin’s mistress, Nyx, the Grey Maiden. Sirana and Gavin learn of Brom’s decades-long search with the Ma'ab for a relic, a black dagger with red runes called Soul Drinker. Within it, he claimed, his Queen-wife, Innathi, still waits for him.

Learning of Sirana’s pregnancy, Brom/Cris-ri-phon attempts to force her to stay under his authority and care, using the help of the Ma’ab and his daughter, Amelda. Sirana escapes by using Soul Drinker in her defense, stabbing Brom Troshin’s body with the relic. The full effects of this attack on the Deathless are not yet known. Sirana and Gavin only know he has not transitioned via a natural death.

Spoiler for Books 5-6: "Black Witch, Death Mage" & "The Mark of Gold".

Through the Deathless, Sirana has experienced ancient memories or dreams of the Sorcerer-General discovering the same prison which seems to haunt the Reverie of the Royal Consort Auslan. The golden-eyed prisoner claims to be a Davrin named Avel, and his insistence on calling this Zauyrian sorcerer his “uncle” strongly implied their connection through marriage; the Sorcerer-General suspects he is Ishuna’s son birthed in secret.

When Cris-ri-phon returned later to attempt to free the bua, he was gone, and another wrathful entity with gold eyes was there instead to chase them out, causing the prison to collapse on top of his men.

More is yet to be revealed about this Zauyrian sorcerer in Sister Seekers.
