Brom Troshin

Master Brom Troshin

(brawm troh'-shihn), , is a presumably Paxian sorcerer once aligned with the Ma'ab in locating and retrieving magical relics.

Fifty years ago, he left the The Far North and founded his own town far to the southwest, Troshin Bend, situated in the forested mountain range between The Midway and Paxia.

Brom is a tall man in his prime with a build reflecting hard labor, though many say he is older than he appears. He has rich brown hair and a complementary beard, deeply tanned skin, and dark blue eyes.

Background

Master Brom was acting governor of the new logging town before anyone thought to make it official, guiding the building trade connections around the lumber which was their livelihood. He also opened the only inn in town and maintained the peace to entice the Dwarves and caravans circling The Great Lake. Soon, other trading men followed the Dwarves, and Brom built a reputation for being a nexus of news, gossip, and reliable information for the right price.

A mere five years before the murmurs of war became a clamor, the governor and innkeeper of Troshin Bend left on a brief journey, returning with his grown daughter, Amelda Tro’lien. While her presence made his townsfolk nervous while under normal routine, and even more so whenever the Witch Hunters of Manalar traveled through, Brom reassured them his sorceress offspring would only live with him long enough to learn what he could teach her.

“Then, I shall escort her back where she belongs.”

Current

As rumors of war suggested an inevitable siege of Manalar, Brom received guests and contacts, conversed with many in private. Rithal Hobgaer carried his tragic story with him every time the former Kerut Hill Dwarf passed through, sometimes preferring the company and hovel of the spying eve witch Osgrid to Brom’s Inn.

Then, one day, Rithal brought two Ma’ab fugitives into town. In Ennikar, Kurn Divigna and Castis Orlien had shared the same Caste of the Flesh as his own daughter. Out from beneath the eye of her mother, Amelda openly displayed her infatuation and flirting invitation with the larger fighter.

Her mother would deny the match, but Brom was mildly curious whether Amelda may have inherited magic from him which was unknown to her mother’s people. Under his roof, he encouraged her to “slum” with the fugitives as she liked.

“Beware if you should hurt her,” the sorcerer murmured to the men, after demonstrating his capability as a sorcerer. “You’ll not leave here alive if you do.”

The next morning, while Amelda seemed satisfied, her aura had not changed in the way he had watched for. She did not have his magic. So be it. The Ma’ab people aren’t ready for true life among them, despite how their rulers extend their deaths.

“We’ll come back through,” Kurn promised with a sneering grin he probably thought looked roguish, "after we find what we’re looking for."

“We’ll be waiting,” said Amelda with lifted chin, appearing as haughty as her mother.
