Osgrid Gherudum

Eve Witch Osgrid Gherudum

Osgrid Gherudum (a.k.a. the Eve Witch)

(oss'-grihd gair'-oo-doom), , is a Tundar Dwarf born in the forested mountains separating Paxia and the Midway grasslands. She is familiar with the workings of the strong lumber trade to the south and with the settlements on the nearest islands off the Great Lake shore.

She is middle-aged for her race with average height and strength. Her natural hair is comprised of tight, black curls, and her eyes are a pale blue. Her travels have given her skin a light brown and ruddy complexion.

Whether by land or by water, Osgrid is willing to travel when needed. Despite her education and personal wishes taking her far from her hometown, her work and her concerns for certain legends would ultimately bring her to a newly built mountain town not two days’ travel from her birthplace.

Background

As a member of a Clan with ties to the Dwarven Halls of Taiding but located between two popular and important Human ports, Osgrid grew up familiar with traders both Human and Dwarf passing frequently through her town. With no early crafting talent showing itself in her young hands but capable with speech, medicine, and hospitality, Osgrid volunteered as a liaison and negotiator for the caravans making their stops.

One evening, a Dwarven witch named Rubishod Reikov came into town after sailing from the Archipelago. Her stories and knowledge captivated young Osgrid, who felt the pull to travel for the first time in her life. The Eve Witch also sensed and confirmed a modest shamanistic magical affinity.

“I could teach you further healing and hospitality through the creatures and growing things of the wild,” she said.

Osgrid’s parents were delighted that a craft had arisen in their daughter but cautious getting to know the visitor from the stormy chain of islands to the north. Rubishod stayed in Falgribar long enough for Osgrid to begin an informal training and for Clan Gherudum to be reassured their daughter would receive a genuine apprenticeship.

It wasn’t until Osgrid had reached the islands and witnessed her first five stormy seasons that she discovered her mentor was of two worlds.

“Am still a witch,” Rubishod stated. “I neva grew a beard.”

“But ye know both ways?”

“Aye.”

“Teach me, magicep. Am open.”

Current

A recurring vision in her wild magics prompted Osgrid to leave the Archipelago, a change to be expected among many of the clans of Tundar. With her cherished daughter Jusgrid grown and choosing the islands and its mysteries alongside her witch-sire, Osgrid returned to the mainland to begin again.

She went to Augran first, as her intuition and the past words of travelers suggested she may find the right ear for her strange story. It did not take long to contact the Clans in the northeast quadrant of Alran, her distant kin directly linked to the Dwarven Halls at Taiding. Some of the fathers were curious enough about her visions to hear her out.

“There’s a dark sorcerer walkin’ among the white men of the Far North,” she always said. “He’s come from out of the mists and searches for something dangerous. T’will cause great harm when discovered by too many.”

“An’ what would we do? Steal this dangerous thing from him when ye do not know yet what ‘tis?”

“It would depend on too much that we don’t know now.” Osgrid had straightened up as her people could see the full life in her already though she was not yet mid-aged. “I will wait for him, find him, I will follow. I will watch him. And learn.”

Her much-elder cousin Talov Baradum nodded, brushing his silvering red beard thoughtfully. “Aye. If yet help us recognize him, we can give what ye need tah follow that mystics vision, lasschen.”

“Thank ye, Grandcuz.”

He grunted. “Open tah us sending a messenger out for word an’ tah check on ye?”

Osgrid smiled at him with plump cheeks. “Aye. Am open.”
