To play the Fangfinder RPG you will need several different dice, which are defined as follows:
1d4 - A four-sided die
1d6 - A six-sided die
1d8 - An eight-sided die
1d10 - A ten-sided die
1d12 - A twelve-sided die
1d20 - A twenty-sided die
You will need these dice to perform different checks. These checks will be performed to determine if you success at a specific task or not. Usually you perform a check with the roll of 1d20 and then add certain modifiers, which are defined in the check description. If your result succeeds a certain number, the so called DC, you check was successful. If it didn't, your attempt to solve that task failed.
Take 10 and Take 20
If you have enough time available and your character is not working under pressure, you can decide to take more time for your task. This will allow you, to take 10 or take 20 as result, without rolling a die. Remember that taking 20 for a check requires 4 times as long as usual, while the time you need when taking 10 is doubled. This method is not a guaranteed success for your check. You can, however, decide that you'll perform your task as long as it takes to success.
