Stories and Tales of Those in Need

The Academy employs a unique terminology when discussing relationships with those who communicate with their faculty, often causing assignments known as 'Quests' to come about from such relations. These terms are reflective of a given contact's needs and the amount of needs before their overarching goal is fulfilled. They are known as "Stories" and "Tales," respectively. Knowing these distinctions is an important step of becoming a successful student at Calvard Academy!

Historical Details

Term

Story — The overarching group of Quests that a given associate of the Academy asks of their students. Stories span the length of multiple Tales, and often take the name of the person 'writing' them, if not the organization in particular. Thus, anecdotes typically cite the "Story of [Name]" or "Stories of [Place]" when discussing assignments of past eras.   Tale — An individual Quest that comprises a greater story; Tales are typically not used in the present tense, but rather the past, as a means of reflecting on Quests after they have been completed. The terminology is usually exclusive for persons of interest, but can in some occasions be used to refer to places as well.   Quest — A present tense request from a person or place, typically compared to being an "Odd-job," or general contract to accomplish something for another. Quests are the most common term used for giving fieldwork to Parties at the Academy, as they are the assignments they must complete on their Master's instruction.
