Dragon Master's guide

Skill challenge When the party encounters a difficult series of obstacles, or challenge they all – or only some of them - must overcome together, it is a good place to call for a Skill challenge. Skill challenge is a minigame in which all players can contribute with their character’s actions towards a favorable outcome. Possible skill challenges may include: Escaping from a burning forest, Racing through collapsing ruins, tracking a rampaging Witless before it arrives to a defenseless tribe, sneaking through a camp of marauding dragons, and so on. Generally the rules are that the party may fail two times, but the third failure results in them being unable to stop the event from occuring. In case of escaping from a collapsing tunnel, some party members may end up trapped inside. In case of escaped Witless, they won’t be able to reach it before it attacks the tribe. However, if they succeed, they will get closer to reslving this situation favorably. How many successes is needed will be decided by DM and may be subjected to many factors – difficulty of the challenge being one, the number of players being the other. But generally 4 successes of about 15 DC should be a default difficulty. Reward your players for using objects or items or coming up with smart ideas by lowering the DC. For a basic framework, only characters with their Characteristic of 7 or higher should attempt a skill check and each player can only succeed once, meaning ideally, everyone would get to contribute somehow. Additionally let the players know that using the same type of Characteristic someone else has already attempted will raise its DC. Example: Escaping a burning forest challenge would naturally likely include Running, Flying and Swimming. However a clever player who has a strong character may decide to describe using her Strength to try and pull a burning log out of the way so that the smaller dragons in her party can run through. One of Those smaller characters will then decide to call for Memory check, using it to try and remember the shortest and safest path out of the forest. As long as your players can justify a Characteristic, let them use it. If they cannot come up with anything or it doesn’t make logical sense, let them use something they already did but at higher DC.   Zinfindel – alcoholic tea-like beverage Shudue – very calming tea, used medically but also as recreational drug. Addictive.
