Beyond's eve

...And I call out Torek. A fine hunter whose bountiful catches fed the tribe for many years. He was an admirable gryphon and loving husband. He... fell bravely in a battle protecting his tribe. May the winds carry his Dreams to Beyond.
— Ayla, the widow gryphoness speaking out on Beyond's eve

History

Beyond's eve is a holy evening when Dreams and Spirits of the dead visit their relatives for one last time before the Freezan crests over to Wakean and new year begins.   The lighting of bonfires symobilzes connection between life (fire) and death (snow).   The celebration is as old as Gryphons themselves. The origin of this ritual is unknown.

Execution

This ritual commemorates those who passed away and consists of two parts.
The first part is speaking on behalf of those that passed away by natural causes. The second part is about those that fell in battle, or otherwise died fighting or protecting someone.   Beyond's eve participants should not speak ill of those they wish to invoke.

Components and tools

Bonfires are lit as soon as both moons rise up in the sky. No other components are required.

Participants

If possible, the entire tribe gathers for this occasion. Only those sick, injured, too young or too elderly are excused.

Observance

Beyond's eve is a Gryphon specific ritual performed one day before the Celebration of Passing.
