The “spring of snakes.” Once called Hornindalsvatnet, it is reputed to be the last hiding place of the Midgard Serpent before it was slain by Thor. His head caved in by the Thunderer’s hammer, the serpent’s limp body slid back into the water, forever tainting it. This was seen, they say, by villagers on either side of the lake. Whether this be true, who can say, but the lake seems to be the source of the massive eels that are blighting the countryside.
