The Verdant Strand

A string of tropical islands that serve as the home for the Sea Elves.
It used to be an important economic centre but is considered a backwater these days. It is dotted with the decaying ruins of old palaces and run down shacks.
It is considered very naturally beautiful and does act as a tourist attraction.

Geography

It is a string of islands that go from the northwest to the southeast off the eastern coast of the old world continent. It forms the oceanward side of the [Silver Sea] opposite of the main land mass. It consists of over five hundred islands of different sizes going from isolated rocks and coral shoals to huge islands.
The largest island is [Seehart] which is 1200 km long and 200 km across at its widest point. It is 115,000 km2 in total. It also hosts the only lake in the archipelago, [Sapphire Eye Lake].
As a tropical region set in the sea, it is a hot and humid region. Temperatures tend to average around 35 C but have known to go as cool as 20 C and as hot as 45 C. It does suffer from a hurricane season in the Spring.

Fauna & Flora

The Verdant Strand is named after the rich and vibrant plant life found across the archipelago. It is densely packed and tends to take over any building in quick order unless kept in check.
The most notable tree species on the island is the Fleet Tree which is indigenous to the region. It is a tree that is rich in natural oils and with very dense fibres. These characteristics made the tree exceptional for use in the construction of ships. It served as the backbone of the various Sea Elven fleets in previous centuries and allowed them to be a dominant naval power.

Natural Resources

Fleet Wood is still used for personal pleasure craft and is a valuable export.
Fruits of various kinds grow very well in the Strand.
Fishing is also plentiful.
The biggest resource is the control the Strand has over any seaborne trade going out of the [Silver Sea]. Though control of shipping lanes through the Verdant Strand is still important, it is less critical as it was before the advent of modern transportation technologies.
