AH-9 Pegasus Assault Helicopter

The AH-9 Pegasus Assault Helicopter is a Dorveth twin-turboshaft attack helicopter with a tailwheel-type landing gear arranged and a tandem cockpit for a crew of two. It features a comprehensive nose-mounted sensor suit for night vision and target acquisition. Armed with a 30mm Shredder chain gun under the aircraft’s forward fuselage, and six hardpoints on the wing pylons which can host a variety of weapon system. Usually this will be air to ground missiles and rockets.   The design has been contracted out to several other countries and has proven very successful in roles where air superiority is ensured. It has proven that it is weak to sustained fire, though several variants have been rolled out over the years.

Armor and defense

Though it should not linger in enemy fire for long, it can endure rifle calibre rounds. Larger calibre rounds in access of 20mm pose threat to the aircraft.   To protect it from surface positions, it is armed with both chafe and flare options.

Military grade multi-band radio equipment for both pilot and gunner. There is a separate line between pilot and co-pilot to ensure local comms without flooding local airways with chatter.

Sensors

The avionics suite of the aircraft has been overhauled many times over the years and varies from country to country.   The helicopter is mounted with both colour and infrared cameras and sensors that are used to identify targets out to 40 kms away.   Laser designators that work out to 10km to paint a target for weapons fire.   There is radar dome that can be used to acquire and maintain lock on both land and air targets.
