Vesalihem

Demographics

Despite its position deep within the mountains, there are very few dragonborn in Vesalihem. Other than this, the population of Vesalihem is not dissimilar to that of the rest of the Viden League. There are roughly equal populations of humans and dwarves, with a smaller elven community.

Government

The chancellor of Vesalihem is a dwarf named Antonie. Reserved and dour, she exemplifies the temperament of Vesalihem.
The human Principal Gellio, an unusually upbeat and vivacious individual, covers administrative governance.
Rector Sophia has command of military and academic matters, and has held the position for as long as most of Vesalihem can remember. Strangely, her many years of service have left her beauty and commanding presence seemingly unchanged.

Industry & Trade

Vesalihem is isolated, so little trade is performed between it and other cities in the Viden League, or even Eira at large. However, it recieves substantial research grants for its breakthroughs in medical magitechnology.
Recently, a locally-produced mushroom vodka has been gaining popularity amidst dwarven communities across Viden, and distilleries have been working at capacity to try and meet demands.

Infrastructure

The cathedral-like academic enclave of Vesalihem contains an unimaginable array of knowledge on healing magic, and the flow of positive and negative energy between planes. Below the enclave lies a twisting maze of catacombs, which are rumoured to be haunted by wayward spirits and shambling undead.
The academic enclave also contains the two main methods of travel to Vesalihem. A large structure in the enclave's courtyard holds a teleportation circle nexus, linked to similar circles in the larger towns of the League. The enclave's towers hold broad balconies and large cages, used as landing pads for riders of flying beasts.
Outside of the academic enclave, there is little industry in Vesalihem, with the exception of the sprawling fungus farms that cover much of the cavern in which the non-academic part of the town is built.
There are rough trails through the mountains to Gerichem and Agrichav, but only the most experienced travellers would use them.

Architecture

The residential and commercial areas of Vesalihem are constructed in the shadows of a massive cavern, wiht only the academic enclave exposed to the sky. The enclave is a massive cathedral-like structure, filled with ornamented towers and high vaulted ceilings. Below the enclave lie miles of twisting catacombs and ossuaries.

Geography

Vesalihem is deep in the mountains of southern Viden, mostly concealed within a massive cavern. Small springs provide drinking water, and a large portion of the cavern and its mouth has been given over to farming to feed the populace.
