Ab-Enkuri Stadium
Purpose / Function
The stadium at Ab-Enkuri is used to host theatrical plays of many types, as well as other sorts of performances and lectures. Most events are provided by groups of Enkurine performers and entertainers, but displays by foreign artists and scholars are extremely popular amongst the cosmopolitan citizens of Ab-Enkuri.
Delegations of masked performers from the Republic of Namu perform what are ostensibly simple folk tales from Namuan legends, but are in fact carefully designed satires against the political elite of Enkur, and subtle pieces of pro-Republic propaganda.
The Sun Cult, despite being viewed with a degree of distrust in the Kingdom of Enkur, occasionally sends missionary performers to proselytise the Enkurine via lengthy liturgical plays. These are for the most part highly ineffective, and are considered as little more than a novelty.
During times of great scientific discovery, the Viden League have been known to send teams of scholars to exhibit technological wonders to the masses. This also has the purpose of securing funding for further developments and potential buyers for their devices.
In addition to plays and lectures, the arena is also host to exhibitions of gladiatorial conflict. These displays are treated as spectacles of physical and martial prowess, and an exceptional gladiator can attain a significant degree of celebrity. Duels are fought to first blood, and a gladiator is trained to fight in such a way that the injuries they inflict are minimally lethal. Deaths in the gladiatorial ring are rare, and unless a gladiator has brought a truly murderous grudge into the arena, a tragic accident.

Architecture
The stadium is built of locally-quarried stone, and rises to almost twice the height of the rooftops of the merchants, taverns, and lodging-houses surrounding it. It is a roughly hourglass shape, with two curved banks of seats to the north and south, situated around a central arena floor. To the east of the arena floor is an enclosed stone courtyard, used for training, as well as simple gladiator lodgings. To the right is an infirmary as well as guest lodgings of various quality for traveling performers.
