Entities in Alézun'Teran

You have found another Visitor's abandoned camp and are looking through some of his or her literary collection. Soon, your gaze is drawn to a thick, leather-bound book placed beside the Visitor's hammock.
You pick it up. It is as heavy as it looks and a strange, cold sensation goes down your spine. You also think you hear a faint whisper behind you, but no one is nearby.
It is a leather-bound tome with the symbol of a three-pointed star on the front, dead in the center of its cover. It has a key-latch on the side of it that is unusually cold to the touch. As your fingers move across it, it suddenly opens up.
The pages within are cold to the touch as well and beautiful frost patterns are noticeable on their corners. The text and illustrations are written with a beautiful and ocean-flowing script that produces clear-cut images in your mind.

General

This Codex came to be due to a collaborated effort that is today known as the Union of the Archive Association, which consists of several parties. It was, in short, one of the grandest collaborated research- and literary projects in the history of Alézun'Teran, as well as the first work of which the Union of the Archive Association made.

History

Documented witness reports, descriptive letters, folklore, songs and tales, paintings, and stonework. Locations of interest surveyed; anything concerning the subjects that are touched upon in the Codex was looked into and collected during a process that took years and years. For how long is not mentioned in the Codex itself, although rumors sway between over a few centuries to over a thousand years. One reason for this far due to the fact that every source of information needed to be fact-checked as thoroughly as possible. The Codex was released in an unknown number of copies and the original was placed in the Great Archive and thus subsequently made accessible to all Visitors.

Information to kill for

The copied volumes are highly valued pieces of literature due to them containing extremely accurate information regarding most entities found in Alézun'Teran, and many are those honest scholars who would, without hesitation, kill to get their hands on one.
Most scholars who own them have them locked inside safes, either hidden or openly displayed. Others might take the other route and simply place them in one of their bookshelves, hiding them in plain sight.
