Mizuri Nation

An alliance of the many independent Mizuri villages across the Guatsuka Islands, the Mizuri Nation is a comparatively small but stubborn player in international politics in Central Mezia.

Structure

The Mizuri Nations are largely governed on a local level, with each village being governed by the individual chief or elder. But to decide on inter-village matters, and on matters impacting relationships to other states, a grand council known as the Council of Seven convenes at least once a year. This Council is composed of the chiefs of the 7 largest Mizuri villages across the three Guatsuka Islands.

History

The Mizuri Nations, as an alliance, is a fairly new state. For ages, the Mizuri as a people lived across the Guatsuka islands in mostly independent villages. Trade between villages was common, but the cultural sense of pride and duty to the lands of one's ancestors made the villages reluctant to ally in any major manner. Any alliances that did form were often temporary as the need arose. However, after the turn of the Fourth Cycle, Sun Emperor Makhiktesh launched his campaign that would be later known as the Syzygy War. And as part of that campaign, the new Sun Emperor set his sights on the Guatsuka Islands, which at that time were newly discovered to the Ekhmeni. The Mizuri villages each summoned their militias and the few Mythborn among them, but the Ekhmeni forces were too strong and quickly overpowered them. Thus the Mizuri fell under Ekhmeni rule for generations. Eventually, over the course of the early Fourth Cycle, the southern provinces of Torith and her sister cities gained their independence from the Ekhmeni Empire. The Mizuri followed suit. Seven chiefs from the seven most prominent villages convened, and together they vowed to regain their people's liberty. And through a combination of subterfuge, guerrilla tactics, and rebellion, they eventually succeeded in demanding independence from the empire. After that, the seven chiefs convened again to decide upon the nature of the fledgling state, opting to preserve the cultural heritage of self-determination among the villages, but coming together as a broader people, a village of villages, united by history and by culture.
