Criodus (Cry O dis)
Criodus is a ring of great power, designed and made by a rather renown spellcaster, and artificer for it's time, although much of it's history has been destroyed. The object in question is without equal in terms of artisan quality, and is made of one the rarest materials found in the world. Criodus, was originally made as a gift, to the crafter's beloved, to celebrate their joining, it was a simple wedding band, and engagement ring.
It's known creation date is sometime before the world's fall, and the very relic remains to be one of the more or less prized artifacts due to it's innate properties, abilities and functions. The ring was designed as the creator's gift to their significant other, a rather lesser known alchemist whom practiced low-level magic, and more high-level alchemy dabbling in the transformative. Criodus is not at all "Just magical ring", it is quite honestly art in every conceivable way described. It is said to be made of a translucent blue material, that glows, radiates and ever overflowing in the arcane, and magical.
During the world's fall, it is implied that it survived the destruction of the world, and it traveled from person to person, until one day it outright vanished in the possession of a rather high-profile nobility.
Criodus's known effects magically are the ability to support magical spells, and to amplify their effects. Due to Criodus's natural ability to store, and generate magical energy on it's own, it acts as an extension for spellcasting storage, which is highly advantageous for the combat-aligned and the novice alike. Criodus also has the ability to complete computational functions in spellcasting- the ability to act as a secondary or tertiary magic brain- able to accelerate extremely complex spells, or shorten even the most mundane spellcast to result instantly.
The once coveted ring however seems have vanished, the once easily tracked ring, due to it's overflowing, Ludacris amounts of magical force simply ceased, as if removed from existence, pulled from the lands by the very gods themselves. While as time progresses, speculation of it's existence remains, it begs the question of divine origin, or perhaps the world before was so advanced it leaves another interpretation.
The material that has been described it is made of, has been found in the wild, a strange unstable substance that seems difficult and unruly to work with, unwilling to be shaped or sculpted in anyway, less it decides to just detonate in ones face explosively.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
Criodus is a masterpiece, it is a ring designed with nano-scale circuits, both technological and magic infused in one. It's highly dense design, and it crystalline material make for a delicate combo. Criodus allows for cognitive overdrive, and the ability to shortern complicated tasks to no time at all. It assists in magic heavily where the ring it's self contains a form of AI like function, to automate tasks and handle things it can understand.
The storage capacity of the ring is vast, and it's design draws in ambient magical forces, through the type of material it is made of. Which is an incredibly delicate one, which easy shatters, explodes, and breaks in a numerous variety of ways when being worked with. Despite this, it has been shaped, reinforced and forged under special conditions, making it rather indestructible to all, if not but a handful of methods. It can only be destroyed by reducing the magic within it that protects it's structure from collasping. Drawing, or draining it dry will diminish it completely. However such a feat may prove difficult, as it would take hundreds of skilled spellcasters days of constant siphoning to truly empty it, as it replenishes very quickly, and during said replenishment it would prove fatal for the environment to be so aggressive. (This means, fauna and floral decay etc. As that energy must come from somewhere.)
Criodus is an intelligent ring of some variety, and much of it's function and assistance, does at times, allow for it to make spot designs, and even attempt to save life. As Criodus was made with the intention of protecting it's wearer, it tends to favor and value life. This isn't to say that it cannot be used to "execute with impunity". It simply tends to take decisions, and paths courses best fit that it believes would protect it's wearer. Due to the age of the artifact, it may have developed an increasing growing amount of it's own intelligence, and power. If it were to come into the hands of mortal hands again, it would likely be to difficult to control, as while a tool of assistance the wearer would need to be recognized as worthy, or worthwhile.
Significance
It was essentially an engagement ring, from a high-profile spellcaster to a rather mid-level alchemist, prior to the events that led to the worlds fall. It's owner is to have been assumed destroyed, or killed during the historical events, and may have contributed to the events that played out.
