Earrings of Gwandrin

"What are those, grandpa!" A young child looks upon the glistening jewels in awe.
"They are symbols of the King's rule, Meria." An old man calmly looks down at the young one holding his hand.

The man returns his gaze to the gathering before him, and the glistening earrings adorning the ears of the man standing on the balcony above, waving his hand at the mass of people. The Melterium of the earrings is absurdly polished, and in the bright morning sun, stars seem to twinkle in its depths as lightning seemingly streaks across the surface every time the King turns his head. These are the Earrings of Gwandrin.

The Earrings of Gwandrin were crafted a long time ago in an age that nobody truly remembers. The earrings are made from a super concentration of Melterium and are considered priceless.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

While many people think that the Earrings of Gwandrin are simply for fashion, the more well read of Melra's population knows that is far from the truth. The earrings are possibly the largest known concentration of Melterium on Melra, and as such they can absorb an enormous amount of magical energy. It would be virtually impossible to use magic anywhere in the vicinity of the king of Gwandrin effectively or without being immediately noticed. While the Earrings of Gwandrin don't give the wearer any known offensive capabilities, they are definitely the ultimate defensive item in regards to magic.
Why the king of Gwandrin needs an item that potent is unknown, but scholars suspect it to be simply a high status symbol due to the fact that all of the Kingdom's paladins have magic resistant or absorbent equipment.

Significance

The Earrings of Gwandrin are a symbol of the power of the Kingdom of Gwandrin.
Carved from Melterium in the shape of teardrops to represent the early struggles of the Kingdom's founding, they are looked upon with awe and envy from the court nobles.
