Temple of the Martyred Hand

Deep within Sherendraskar, in the hills to the east of Djianga, lies the ancient Temple of the Martyred Hand. Dedicated to Shemian, an ancient god of knowledge and medicine. Here the monks and scholars of this ancient order strive to uncover the origin and treatments for the many diseases of the world. Blessed with an well-nigh impenetrable invulnerability to illness . Even most magical diseases fail to spread to the monks of the temple.   Getting to the temple is difficult at best, as many refuse to aid the sick or dying along the journey to the temple grounds. Rules for entry into Sherendraskar require petitioners to be fully shrouded during travel in saffron colored robes, and each must travel either in groups or solely, but they must be accompanied by a monitor who will act as a liaison between the sick and those who are healthy. Entry is restricted to a single port, and entry is denied during various holy times of the year.   Journeying to the temple takes between five and ten days, during which the petitioners lives are within a thread of being cut short. Any who would strike down the petitioners may freely do so, and in fact, many such fall prey to nomadic marauders. The Petitioners are not guaranteed safety even upon arrival at the temple, where the monks of the temple may turn away those unworthy of the temple's aid.   For those accepted into the temple's embrace, they may stay under the temple's protection for as long as necessary. Often this will continue until they petitioner is healed or dies. Many petitioners remain long after their illnesses are cured, becoming the next generation of monks, the priests of the martyred god. In this manner they continue a tradition which has lasted for one thousand years.
