Carrowyn Vallen

Carrowyn Vallen (a.k.a. Carrow, Crow)

More infamous than famous. Carrowyn Vallen is one of the forefathers of medicine in Medias. One of the Wayfinders, Carrowyn started as most Wayfinders do, moving from place to place as Seer ordained, gathering herbs, communing with The Seer and spreading his word, treating illnesses and brewing. Carrowyn started working with medicine early, claiming to have received guidance that told her to embrace the dead. She started to take in the dead that her people could not save, and take them apart.   Enjoying a gruesome reputation during her life, Carrowyn lead the way into the study of anatomy, and the inner workings of the human body.

Personal history

Carrowyn Vallen was born to the Wayfinder caravan lead by the Vallen family. The caravan is known to be a medical one, gathering herbs and offering treatment to the townships they move through. Carrowyn spent most of her youth in the same way, traveling in the family wagon, picking herbs, drying and preparing them, stitching wounds and balancing humors. At the advent of her adulthood, as her own caravan was finished, she took the traditional reading, and claimed to be told to 'embrace the dead, explore the vessel of the soul.' Carrowyn took this to heart, and started with the dissection of hunted game, working her way slowly up to dead people. Her gruesome work quickly earned her the nickname Crow, but her study of muscle structure, bones, organs and the effects of illnesses on the interior were a key turning point in the study of medicine.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Carrowyn Vallen's studies were collected and published after her lifetime by Avery Vallen, during his time in Irondale, treating Erick Spire. Called The Crow's Pickings it was cited in many medical advances in Heuron, the Vallens established as the best and most knowledgeable healers of their time. More importantly, Carrowyn Vallen broke the boundaries that prevented the study of the body after death. She is also responsible for categorizing injury types, a study picked up and still actively pursued by the Ghennan Inquisition.
