Geminarchy

In times predating the unification of the Three Kingdoms, the ancient Midlanders practiced a form of solar reverance known as Geminarchy — the worship of the twin stars Hin and Iau.   Hin is the larger and brighter of two stars in a close binary system, a yellow dwarf. The smaller and dimmer orange dwarf, Iau, is the parent star of the planet Mecada.   Once the dominant religion in the Land of the Three Kingdoms, Geminarchy has long been replaced by a more pragmatic pantheon which originates, some believe, in a foreign land to the far west across the Sea of Mice — the theorized ancestral home of the Midlanders.   The monarchs of the Three Kingdoms continue to apply the prefix "Under Twin Skies" to their full styles, in homage to the ancient traditions which birthed their culture.   Today, a variant of Geminarchy is practiced by the Hingardi who reside in the Jade Mountains to the north of the Three Kingdoms. Their practices are largely undocumented, as the near-constant state of war between their tribes and the organized Midlander Kingdoms leaves little room for cultural exchange. It is known, however, that they place greater emphasis on the reverence of Hin than on that of Iau; it is this which gave rise to the exonym Hingardi.
