Last Adventure of the Order of the Broken Lyre

The party continues their quest in the ruins of Nelar, eventually making it to the black tower. There they find the ghost of Zavara’s father bound to the power of the tower. He explains to them that Lord Baelok was a powerful beholder mage who, he was told, was attempting to form a kingdom of his own as a launching point for invasion of the south lands. When the Duke of Krendal asked for help in eliminating this problem, the council of Speakers in Talen’Seere, recommended him to be sent.     He tells the party that his good friend, the mage Balrian Greycloak, warned him against accepting the mission, telling him that the Drow speaker Umrae, was the one who suggested he go. Sir Besrial ignored his friend, thinking that it was Balrian’s paranoia about the dark elves influencing his judgement. Sir Besrial will tell the party that Lord Baelok was changed by their battle and has become a powerful undead known as a Death Tyrant. He charges Zavara will the destruction of the creature, and returning the remains of her mother to Grayson to be buried.   The party delved into the depths of the Beholders lair, and eventually slew the beast, and recovered the bones of Zavara’s mother to be returned home. During the battle, the party collapses the Beholder’s lair, stranding them in the under dark.   It would take the party nearly 2 more months to travel south through the underdark, during which time they would get caught up in a battle between an Illithid Hive and a small enclave of Duergar. The party would be forced to work with the Dark Dwarves, where Taldar would meet Korva Steelbender, the Duergar smith he was shown in the vision. After saving her from the Illithid hive, Korva states that she must go with him to repay the debt for her life.   The party would then return to Melford hall to find that messengers of the Duchess are awaiting them. The King of Fetesca is mobilizing the gentry to deal with monster attacks in Greyson and the Surrounding areas. These are the same green-gray humanoids that attacked the caravan the party found earlier.   The party joins with the forces from the various duchies and over time come to realize that the attacks seem to be emanating from areas that contain Portals to Talen’Seere. At this point, it is revealed that Balrian Greycloak has been with the King of Fetesca and advising him that the Drow must have something to do with this, and advises moving against Talen’Seere.   This causes a schism amongst the nobility. The king is supportive of this idea, as is the Duke of Greyson. Duchess of Darel agrees due to her feudal obligations. However, the Duke of Blackholm refuses, accusing the Grey Elves of trying to use Fetesca to fight a civil war, and the Duchess of Krendal is persuaded by Zavara’s distrust of Balrian Greycloak and joins Blackholm in refusal.   The Duchess of Darel calls upon the party’s oath, and they are pulled into the conflict. (Zavara goes as well, hoping for the opportunity to slay Balrian has her Goddess demands.) Over the next few weeks the party battles the creatures, whom the people of Greyson call Oruks, (Elvish for “the Twisted”), and Taz comes to realize that the Oruk spellcasters are actually warlocks with pacts to the fae of the Unseelie court.   Taz then leads the party into the Dreaming to confront the queen of the Dark Court. Here they find out that the Oruks are tools of Umrae’s vengeance. They are elves whom were taken and changed into horrible forms and then bred together to make an army in the halls below Talen’Seere.   The Dark Queen reveals that Umrae does not serve Belandra, but rather Fern, who has joined with the Unseelie court and the forces of Brilla to destroy Talen’Seere and return the Drow to her dark worship. As the party travels through the dreaming towards the dark tunnels beneath Talen’Seere, they see that Umrae’s Oruks have been formed into a great army that is ready to swarm from the fae portals into Greyson.   As the party moved to delay the Oruk forces, they send a message to the King of Fetesca about the coming army. King Ravennian commands his war mages to close the portals in Fetesca and cut Talen’Seere off. Unfortunately, the magical backlash of that ritual caused the portals to implode destroying most of the warmages of Fetesca and dragging the entirety of the duchy of Greyson into the dreaming. The Grey Sea pours into fill the vacant space that once held land. The forces of Fetesca were devastated, and were not able to continue the battle with Umrae, leaving only the party to lead the revolt against the mad Drow matriarch in the elvish city.   The party’s efforts were bolstered by the rebels under Balrian Greycloak, who helped the party battle down into the Drow tunnels and face off against the united might of the Fernite Drow and the Unseelie court that supported them. Eventually, the party defeated Umrae and took her captive.   As the war drew to a close, the party turned Umrae over to the speaker’s council for judgement, and to their surprise Balrian Greycloak turned himself over to be judged likewise. The word of the council was that both were to be executed for their crimes against Talen’Seere. Zavara was chosen to act as the hand of Sepia, and once the two were bound to the rock, summoned the lightning that executed them.   The party then returned to Melford Hall and spent some time resting and recuperating from their efforts. Some months later, Mason returned claiming that his debt had been called in and he needed the party’s help in saving a city.   The party agreed and Mason used the diabolic magic he possessed to activate the mark of Hosia on his back and sent the party crashing backwards through time. The city they were to save was the Elvish City of Oman, in the days before the Gods Purge. The party battle the minotaur armies under the command of Drekken, and Mason defeated the warlord in battle. And just when the party thought the worst was over, Mason used the crystal of Grynwell, to sacrifice the soul of Drekken to the Nine Hells.   The party was thrown through time again, and confronted by Hosia, who revealed that he was privy to the actions of Grynwell and approved. Having destroyed Drekken utterly before the All-Father could elevate him to godhood, Mason had removed a keystone of static time which prevented Hosia from protecting the divine balance of the sphere. By this act, Mason and the party had protected the world from the slow decent into destruction that the All-Father had doomed it to during the God Purge. With the balance able to move freely, the world could resist the pulls of entropy.   But Hosia told them, Grynwell would have control over Mason if he returned to the present and would use the power of Drekken’s soul for evil. So Hosia offered Mason a chance to close the time loop, be sending him back to the day of his wife’s death, so that the party could defeat the demon that killed her, essentially undoing Mason’s current existence.   The party agreed to this without reservation, and as a team battled the great demon Belras, saving Mason’s family and redeeming his soul from the darkness it had so long struggled under.
