Halflings

Halflings have the distinction of being the smallest of the common races. It is very rare for halfling to top three and a half feet. Their average tends to be closer to the three foot mark, making them decidedly smaller than even gnomes. There are three separate races of halflings, the Fetescan halflings or Hairfoots, the Arakeenian halflings or Stouts, the Icehearth halflings or Vedish and the Ralatution halflings, or Tal'Kret. The main difference between the races of halflings are due to environment in which they live. The stouts, living in tunnels beneath Arakeen, are smaller with a more concentrated muscle mass, while the outdoor living Hairfoots have not. The Vedish tend to be more heavyset to help contain their body heat. The Tal'kret, for no known reason, developed powerful psionic powers allowing for their control of Ralatut, before the War of Twilight Last. All of this seems to matter very little to most of the halflings, who seem to put almost no importance on race. The Tal'kret are the single exception to this. They hold themselves as being very different from the halflings from the other continents. Hairfoots halflings revere Pthalo as their racial Goddess but often take up the worship of the humans that they live with. The stouts were once forced into the worship of Omadon by their Arakeenian Masters. Since the fall of Arakeen most of them have reverted to a Shamanistic Culture. The Vedish worship the goddess Vedis almost exclusively and see themselves as her chosen people. The Tal'kret subscribe to an odd sort of ancestor worship that manifests primarily in their mummification rituals.
