Summer of Black Snow

The earth had shaken that morning, and the few days before. The sky went dark the way an eclipse darkens the earth, but no eclipse had been predicted. Next came snow, heavy and black and sticky. It coated everything, inches of this foul-smelling slime. The sun did not reappear for days, and we lived in frigid darkness as reports of huge waves ripping entire swaths of coast off came in from surviving villagers. When the sun reappeared it was through haze and more black snow. The earth continued to shake, and the waves continued to pull the earth back into the sea.

The land shook, the sky went dark, and black hail full of ash fell to the earth around us. We took shelter in the old caverns and cellars as storms continued to drop those damned fists of black ice on us. Roofs were destroyed, crops torn from the ground, animals and people were killed being hit with those things. Each stone full of frozen ash.
--Alpta
The ocean itself froze in places. Plants withered before our eyes, crushed beneath black snow. After that, we had several days before the ocean pulled back from its shores. We did our best to find high ground and escape the coming waves on our boats and ships. Did you know The Needle used to be home to our largest city? It was covered completely by a black wave sent by Qhil herself to destroy us. Bodies washed up weeks after, gnawed on and rotting.
--Brosha
The tides receded and rose quickly. There were tidal waves across the ocean, and these were its remnants. Of our islands, a third were taken under the waves as the water kept rising. The boats on which we live, our homes that are mocked by the Continent, meant we escaped with far fewer deaths than they could ever hope to have.

Our islands were flooded, black hail rained down upon us. Our dead washed up on beaches and rocks, the remnants of our towns floating in cold ash-filled water.
