The Great Cataclysm was the most important event in the history of Mava Ara. It is responsible for the creation of the Ruins of Marama, as well as the banning of Warlock magic, the banishing of the Drow to the Under, and the extinction of the Gith.   In the time before the Great Cataclysm, the mighty supernation of Marama exerted significant control over the other nations of Mava Ara. This tyranny existed for hundreds of years, some might even say thousands.   Marama was ruled by a diarchy consisting of one Gith and one Drow elder, an unlikely partnership that was formed millenia ago when the Drow first came to Mava Ara.   The plot to end the reign of the Marama Biarchy started on 6/3/5 BGC. A group of nine 5 year olds (a high elf, a minotaur, a halfling, a centaur, a dwarf, a human, a dragonborn, a wood elf, and an aarakocra) were gathered on Aberidus Island. For five years, they were trained in the ways of the Warlock. Each of them grew mighty in power.   Five years later, early in the morning of the first day of Hollember -1 BGC, the nine now ten year olds were snuck deep into the heart of Marama, to a small abandoned temple next to a minor lake. They were brought together in a circle, and the rest of the temple was cleared.   For the entire month of Hollember, their collective power grew in a massive feedback loop. Their patron stayed with them the entire time, showing them things that should not be comprehensible to even the most ancient warlocks.   Finally, early in the morning of the last day of Hollember, the ritual was finished. What exactly the ritual was is unclear, as everyone who would know was caught up in the following blast.   The blast in question was a massive detonation that blew a massive hole in the ground, accompanied by a kilometer tall wave of fire that rolled across the entire region, destroying every structure and killing every person that was in its path. Most of Marama was annhilated by the fire, with only a few pockets of Drow surviving in the far lands.
