Culture

The Library encourages and reveres the pursuit of knowledge of all kinds. Acolytes are people who show acumen and interest in learning and will take lectures under the various Learned Scholars in their fields of expertise, as well as being encouraged to pursue their own fields of interest. Once an Acolyte has grown to a certain level of expertise in their field of choice, they apprentice under a Learned Scholar they feel can help them advance their understanding in that field. If an Acolyte makes a breakthrough in their field or discovers some new field of inquiry of their own, the existing Learned Scholars, as well as the Venerated Scribe, will hold a meeting to decide if the Acolyte has made enough advances to be admitted to the ranks of Learned Scholar themselves. It is up to each Learned Scholar to decide if they wish to take on Acolytes, usually based on that Acolytes interests and other factors, and most do, but some have never taught lectures and/ or taken on Acolytes. The Venerated Scribe is a lifelong position, chosen from amongst the Learned Scholars upon the death of the previous Venerated Scribe. There have been cases in the history of the Library where the Venerated Scribe has been ousted by the Learned Scholars, however. This is usually because they were seen to be subverting the axioms of the institute in some way, either due to corruption, heresy, or other nefarious influence.

Assets

The library has a huge collection of documents and artefacts; some are available for public viewing, but most are stored within the inner vaults where they are studied, preserved, and maintained by the Acolytes and Learned Scholars.
