Session Thirty-Four: Songbird

General Summary

- 17 of Solas -

Lunestra looked down at herself and then to Yarrow and Cyrus. Gaspard's blessing was upon them and granted them greater saftey and magic. Lunestra used the blessing to cast Aid on the three of them to prepare them for the coming fight. Yarrow meanwhile prayed to the 12 gods. Cyrus looked out at the mayhem going on in the capitol.
Nobles and soldiers ran around the Boughs and screaming and fighting could be heard from above and below. The group began to make their way out of the Boughs. The main sections of fighting sounded higher in the Canopy Market and down at the ground level in the Bright Hollows. Lunestra pulled the group towards the Bright Hollows. They descended the tree and saw chaos in the Bright Hollows. Perch Guard and Undead seemed to be fighting in waves at the front gate of Alderheart. Meanwhile the clerics and paladins of the churches were in the religious sector fighting off robed figures. In the center of town Perch Guard and Bandits fought one another amongst the common folk of Alderheart. All this while shimmering coloured lights and trailing spirits permeated the air.
Lunestra pointed at the commoners in danger. Yarrow and Cyrus nodded and they made their way down to help as many people as they could. A large Cervan Woman decorated in Bandit armor was giving orders to bandits as they fought the Perch Guard. Lunestra looked on and noticed that the bandits were also protecting civilians from harm and were directing many of them towards one of the entrances to the Underfall.
Cyrus opened the fight by blasting the Cervan with an Eldritch Blast. The remaining Perch Guard looked behind and rallied themselves to help the three heroes of Brackenmill. The bandits shot at Cyrus as Lunestra charged past into the middle of combat, her swords glowing with a pink light. Yarrow began casting and soon several cows appeared near the civilians in combat ready to protect them.
One of the civilians, a Mapach with a lute, began to play music and his chords struck one of the other civilians with magical force. A portion of the civilians revealed themselves to be wearing dark, form fitting armor and took out long knives. Another Mapach, dressed in full armor with a Warhammer, came out from an alleyway and swung at one of these newly revealed combatants.
Lunestra squared off with Benna. Benna nodded in recognition of Lunestra and the two exchanged blows. Lunestra's swords glowed with radiant energy as she struck but Benna's expertise with her own weapons kept proving to be problematic for the Strig. Yarrow stayed behind Lunestra and used his magics to cure her wounds as she was hit.
Cyrus was now focused on these new assailants and this Mapach. 'This must be Songbird' he thought to himself, 'the one who knows where the dancers are.' With that incentive Cyrus moved up the side of one of the nearby buildings and covered Songbirds escape by blasting the enemies nearby him. Songbird took the opening and began to run by as another assassin emerged from the shadows. Songbird kept running straight at this assassin, the assassin preparing to strike. Then the Mapach's head began to split into two, his flesh rending and tearing apart as strands of magical energy held him together. Songbird split into two forms that quickly took shape. They were two Luma both in clothing Cyrus recognized as the clothing of dancers from Western Octilom.
The two Luma ran and cast their own spells. One teleporting to Cyrus and the other hiding behind Lunestra. Lunestra healed herself and fought valiantly against Benna. Eventually one of her blows took the Cervan by surprise and with a flash of magical light the Cervan was knocked to the ground unconscious. The bandits began to flee and between the remaining Perch Guard and the Mapach with the Warhammer the assassins decided to flee as well.
Cyrus asked the two Luma if they were Lota and Ada to which they gleefully said yes. Just then a series of small explosions could be heard and felt from the front of Alderheart and then another, much larger explosion, shook the tree at its core. The larger explosion sounded like it came from the Canopy market. Lunestra looked back down the road towards the churches in the main square of the Bright Hollows.
She saw nothing. No fighters, no clerics, nothing, just the buildings standing in the distance as if nothing was wrong. Lunestra pointed this out and pulled the group towards the churches to check on the clerics there. The Mapach with the Warhammer introduced himself as Cooper, a cleric of Gesme, and a crafter at the forge of Gesme.
As they approached Lota and Ada refused, their flesh and bones becoming one, and they took the form of the Mapach Songbird once more. Lunestra arrived at one of the entrances to the religious square. No one could be seen. She focused her senses and could sense undead, many undead, just feet in front of her. She reached out to enter the square but her path was blocked. An invisible wall pushed back at her and threatened to harm her if she continued.
Cyrus climbed a nearby building and looked into the square. There he saw the edges of a magical barrier around the square. In the square he saw undead folk, plants growing out of the sides of their faces, robed figures and bandits all fighting different clerics and paladins of Gaspard, Gesme, Altus, and Ardea in front of Ardea's temple.
Cyrus told the group what was going on and they agreed that they needed to get over. They climbed into Yarrow's bag of colding and Cyrus got them over the wall. While still unseen Lunestra took a scroll of Dimension Door and Cooper cast Spirit Guardians on himself. The Paladin grabbed Cooper and the two of them teleported inbetween the undead and the clerics defending the temple of Ardea.
