Session Eleven: Reporting to the Perch Guard

General Summary

The party collected what they could from the camp.   Alabaster took the remaining vials of poison in Hatyara's possession as well as a pouch of hers filled with jewelry and made his way to the assassin's tent. There he found silks and other niceties and a chest. After spending some time breaking the lock he discovered a coin purse inside with 100 gold pieces and tons of paperwork. Deeds to properties, ledgers for trade, agreements, letters. All in the name of Sheaf Robins. Alabaster finished breezing through the paperwork and called in some guards to carry it for him.   Cyrus looked at the body of Hatyara and took her two daggers. Both beautiful and magical each being a +1 weapon. He then used one of them to carve,
I'm watching you.
into her torso and hung her from a nearby tree. He then worked with Yarrow bandaging up the remaining guard.   Yarrow checked on the wolves noting that the remaining ones had fled and it didn't seem like they were coming back. He moved the body of the one wolf off to the woods and brought along the corpse of the Cervan bandit who had been 'training' them. Then he worked with the cadets to collect the rest of the bodies and cover them with one of the tents for the guards to look at later.   Aldous talked with Emma and the cadets. The two had a heartfelt if not awkward conversation. Aldous then took the time to rest and regain his magic.
On the way back to town the group encountered the one guard who was hurt in the battle along with the two other cadets and the head priest of the temple of Hanera. Back in town they were met by the front guards who alerted the others to their return and the group was brought to the barracks.   At the barracks cadets and medics came forward to help the injured. The party reported to Captain Baldwin who was in the front hall of the barracks giving orders. He seemed surprised but elated and agreed to have them rewarded and to talk about what to do next after he had secured the weapons that created this fuss. He asked the party to go to Flandal Steelskin and to secure the cursed weapons and bring them back. Then they would interrogate the prisoners and decide a course of action. In the meantime he was going to put together a strike/scout team to follow the bandits that retreated into the woods before the party arrived.
The group left and headed to Flandal Steelskins workshop. Captain Uyncis flirted with Cyrus but then told the party that Flandal has been joyous and celebrating since morning. Alabaster, Yarrow, and Aldous went inside to talk with Flandal while Cyrus remained outside to talk with Uyncis.   Inside the workers were working furiously. Flandal greeted them after being alerted by his secretary. The Mapach looked disheveled and exhausted like he hadn't slept at all. Something about Flandal seemed off but he said that he had been making wonderful progress over the course of the night and that he needed more magical people to help him. The party rebuffed him and asked about the cursed weapons.   Flandal said that the cursed weapons were fine and he would deliver them eventually. Alabaster and Yarrow persisted that they needed them now. To convince him Alabaster cast shatter on the door to the office, that had just been repaired, and Yarrow cast Fog Cloud for effect. The two spells resonated throughout the building and a thick fog filled the workshop.   Meanwhile outside Cyrus asked Uyncis if sleeping with him would calm him down. The captain nervously said that he didn't want to talk about it in the streets while on duty and that Cyrus should talk to him later in the night at the barracks. Then an explosion sounded from inside the workshop. Cyrus and Uyncis ran in and asked what was happening. Flandal and Alabaster both yelled at the Hedge to get out of the shop.   Flandal agreed to bundle up the cursed items which he did quickly. He came out with them wrapped in burlap and twine and started handing them over to the guard. Yarrow took some time and after looking at a couple found one that was a different weapon than before. Yarrow confronted Flandal and after insinuating his relationship to the Fey got the real cursed item from Flandal. Then the party took the items and left for the barracks except Alabaster who went to sell some things first.
At the barracks the party was rewarded by Captain Baldwin. 80 gp and the chance to join the Perch Guard if they wanted as well as lodging at the barracks for as long as they needed. The party took the gold and delivered the items and then went separate ways within the barracks.   Yarrow helped mend items and talked with the guards from the fight. He also took Rose and Peat Moss out of his bag.   Aldous went to the interrogation of the prisoner and provided back up with his Detect Thoughts spell. Over the course of the investigation he discovered;
  • The Bandits have a hideout in the mountains.
  • There was a power struggle between Krall and a new bandit named Jorn.
  • The bandits are now being led by Jorn who can shapeshift. Anyone who sees his true form ends up dead.
  • Wolne and Alvert were working with Jorn and they betrayed Serra Hyne because they believed her to be a spy of some sort.
  • The bandits wanted the weapons and knew that they were cursed with an enchantment. Their plan was to give the weapons to the Perch Guard in Alderheart and to cause chaos in the capitol.
  • The bandits did not know about the 'killing' curse in the weapons.
  • The bandits and assassins were working together because they had a similar need to come and go from Brackenmill.
Aldous shared most of this information with the Captain save for the bit about the bandits planning to give the weapons to Perch Guard in Alderheart. Captain Baldwin, excited, said that they'd send a message to Alderheart to determine what to do next. He asked that the group stay in Brackenmill until they replied for they might go speak with the bird council themselves or be asked to partake in another mission.   Cyrus went to Uyncis' office and asked to be alone with him. The Captain was nervous and a bit strange acting. After some time he asked Cyrus if he would like to meet Kathon. She was in hiding from the assassins but because one of the leaders was dead Uyncis thought it a bit safer to introduce them. Cyrus thanked him and then they had sex in Uyncis' office.   Alabaster was up in the Skymall. He found his way to a small but very fancy jewelry shop. The teller was just starting to get the shop going again after being forced to be closed by the military. Alabaster showed her the jewelry, after taking one ear clip for himself, and asked her how much it would be. She accused him of stealing these from one of his noble customers to which Alabaster agreed and then flashed his badge as part of the Perch Guard. The shop owner agreed to buy them, as she wanted them herself, and after her offer Alabaster intimidated her into increasing the amount.   Back at the barracks Alabaster met with Captain Baldwin and was told to get his reward from an officer out in the front. She offered him the 80 gold pieces and Alabaster hassled her for more. The two argued for a bit before she agreed to give him 100. Cyrus came out and told Alabaster that he needed him to come along to meet Kathon. Alabaster realized he only got 99 gold pieces and him and the guard got into a small fist fight.
Yarrow, Alabaster, Cyrus, and Uyncis made their way to North Tree that night. There they went to a large farm house and were greeted by Alcimus, a tall and surly crane that the two performers had met previously. The group was led inside and Cyrus was brought to a secret room where he met Kathon.   In private Kathon told Cyrus that she needed to get out of Brackenmill, get more rubies, cast an abjuration spell on herself to escape the bandits and pass her dances to him in case something happens to her. She told him of the Calcar and the Pamca Iladres back in Kagi. Someone had hired them to kill the dancers in southern Kagi and western Octilom. Most likely to limit the number of people who could do the dance of wishes, the Lysta Mixixe. Something large was happening and someone didn't want the dancers to be an option for retaliation.   Cyrus agreed to help her and suggested taking her to Meadowfern.
