Marofax

The Dragon god of Wurmshire

Marofax is a Shadow Dragon who rules of Wurmshire and is who is believed by many to be a god. He only interacts with the people of the Shire once a year during a tithing ritual known as the Harvesting. It is well known that Marofax is one of many dragons who claim divine status, each ruling over a different Shire. Despite it being common knowledge to the noble of Wyrlin that each Shire has its own diety, the commonfolk are none the wiser.

Mythology & Lore

It is said that in the time before people can remember, humanity was bathed in darkness and times were bad. During this endless night, demon covered the planet and tormented the mankind. Eventually one god arose to fight back this eternal night and bring light back to the planet. That god was Marofax.

To this day, he still fights back this darkness in return for a simple tithing each year.

Ethics

In addition to the Harvesting, it is understood that Marofax thrives on artwork and praise. Many believe that any ill mention of his name can curse those who dare speak it. In more recent times people of the Wurmshire have begun executing those who speak about Marofax in a negative way.

Worship

The Harvesting

Marofax demands very little from his followers in terms of how to live their daily lives. Instead he demands that all of the people of Wurmshire provide him with half a years worth of harvest, gifts made in his image, and one young maiden for him to claim as his own. This event that occurs each year is known as the Harvesting.

Priesthood

Priest Lamar Lloyd

Priest Lamar is one of the three major heads of the church of Marofax running the church in Lindenwin and doing most of the organizing for the Harvesting. He is a fat man, larger than most in the town with curly black hair. He is never seen without his vestiges on. He is a kind man, with a good heart who truly believes that Marofax is all that stands between the people of Wurmshire and the Oblivion relm. Like the other three priests, Lamar was killed during the Failed Harvesting.

The Failed Harvesting

The most recent Harvesting is an event that has become known as the "Failed Harvesting" This was a situation in which one of the guard being the Harvest maiden Amelia Lindenwin attacked Marofax after proclaiming his love for her. Marofax then burned the Guard alive. One of the townfolks who returned Amelia, Morcant, called out asking about another Dragon named Alandra which set the god off.

He then declared that he wanted double the harvest and announced that he had burned the town of Pataya and would do so to Lindenwin if his demands were not met. Vanishing with the loot from the Harvesting, he then released "shadows" that killed the vast majority of the witnesses to the Harvesting.
