Dagger of Blood

A dagger originally found in a table in Ilmilis' the necromancers house, surrounded by bones and seeming to drain the light from the area when found.   The blade is made of a metal the colour of blood with a black leather handle of a necrotic dragon. The dagger is used often for sacrifices and was designed to quickly suck out all life from the victim when used and to strengthen the users lifeforce.   The blade itself is engraved with intricate decorational patterns which seem to dance around when the item is moved. This is unusual, since it is a sacrificial blade and as such it should normally be just strong and sharp with no use for decorations. Upon closer inspection, the engravings are complex ancient runes in both Elven and Dwarvish and can be found intermingling slowly along the blades double edge. There seems to be a hidden power contained within the item which refuses to be identified leading to greater questions about its origin.     (Requires attunement) 2d6 Slashing/Piercing (Melee attack only) Each time you roll maximum damage on at least one dice you can gain all the damage dealt as temp hp up to the damage dealt. (Not stacking) In the hands of someone related by blood to the soul, enhanced effects are applied while removing possible saving throws against the sentient object.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The dagger has been enchanted in such a way with a very specific design, as to drain the lifeforce of any creature it hits. Due to the person being unable to hold two life forces, instead it gets turned into temporary HP as almost a shield, each time the blade cuts deep enough to damage the opponents lifeforce.

Manufacturing process

Due to the inherently magic nature of the weapon, all the ingredients must be handled with only magic, with no contact to other living creatures, as to not disturb the childs soul, this means Blacksmiths Mage Hand will be required.   Due to the use of mithril and adamantine, only a bloodmarble anvil and adamantine hammer are capable of working to such detail while not losing power in smithing, and to also not lose use of the tools before the smithing is completed within the heat.   The metals require being heated deep in the heart of a dragons volcano, meaning someone with high heat resistance is required while also having someone at the peak of expert blacksmithing working with the spellcaster.   Before smithing, the mithril and adamantine go through numerous rounds of purification, this leads to the resulting materials being a lot less but with higher purity.   The mithril makes the base of the weapon while the bloodstone is used to coat the mithril while the bloodmarble is forged around it which binds it together well. Adamantine is used to sharpen the edges.   With the main body of the weapon forged, the child sacrifice must be when the child is asleep being killed by the incomplete blade from a single strike to the heart; the materials being so close to a dying child will pull in the childs soul to fully enchant the weapon.   After three days of letting the childs soul stabilise in the weapon, the final touches for the handle can be made with layers of necromantic dragonskin to protect the user from any minor curses and to enhance the soul stealing abilites from the dragons natural abilities.
