Wilder Stag

The wilder stag is a large creature resembling a white-tailed deer with luminous antlers. These antlers shed dim light in a 10 foot radius. These creatures are prized by wizards, as both their hides and their antlers are useful as magical ingredients.

 

A lone wilder stag will always choose to run away rather than fight. If cornered, it will choose to charge if possible, and bite otherwise. If found in a group, it will normally be one male, one - two females, and one - four young. If encountered as a group, the male will attack allowing the females and young to run. The preferred tactic in this situation is for the stag to charge its target, and using its misty step ability to charge the target from behind. It will repeat this action twice if necessary, before escaping using misty step to put distance between it and its opponents. A female will attack to protect its young.

 

The hide of the wilder stag may be used to produce black parchment. This parchment is prized by spell casters of all types. A buck hide can provide from six to ten sheets of this material, while a doe hide will normally yield four to six. Hides from the young normally yield at least two sheets of parchment, and sometimes more.

 

The antlers of wilder stag are also useful, as they are naturally luminous, and bits of antler (properly prepared) can be used to double the light produced by spells that produce light as their main effect. Rings made from the base of the antler, once prepared, do not lose their potency, and are sometimes made into permanent magic items. The antler is also powdered for use in the inks necessary for use with black parchment.

    Bite: Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hiit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d6 + 1) piercing damage.
      Charge: If the wilder stag moves at least 20 feet straight towards a target and then hits it with an antler attack on the same turn, the target takes 6 (1d8 + 1) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature of size large or smaller, it must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
      Misty Step (3/day): The wilder stag may teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space it can see. If it does this in conjunction with a Charge attack, the attack is made with advantage.
