Gomor

Geography

Gomor (guh-more) is the smaller of the two moons of Draiocht. A blue hued body whose surface is pockmarked, but mostly flat. Huge crystals of ice jutting up at all angles along most of the surface give it a somewhat spiky appearance. Gomor is larger than its sibling moon, F'an, and has a shorter orbit which adds to the (apparent) size discrepancy when comparing moons since it appears larger in the sky due to the perspective.   The moon is small enough to not be able to contain any natural atmosphere, so the sky is completely clear. Draiocht nearly fills Gomor's sky when the two bodies are aligned, its topography complex but identifiable.

History

In recent times, Gomor has been a safe haven for most of the former population of dragons on Draiocht. This is a closely held secret among those in the know. A brief, rare truce was called between many of the dragons near the beginning of the Period of Prosperity, during which time the dragons joined their knowledge and magics together to seal the entire moon from unwanted entry, observation, and divination. A series of fixed portals allowed travel between Gomor and Draiocht when needed. These portals were relatively prolific at first, but neglect and purposeful destruction have reduced the number of portals to just a handful.   With Gomor's defenses erected, the dragons parted to live, for the most part, in isolation on various spots of (or within) the moon. Magical bubbles of atmosphere allow a somewhat-customizable level of comfort to be achieved, along with providing some visual camouflage for the more mundane stealth concerns.   One of the last humanoid-known portals was destroyed during the Savior's Siege of Dunbar, much to the frustration of the then-king of Malta, King Cardinae the Wise, Sixth of His Name. The inability to communicate with or monitor the dragons on Gomor made them look suspicious at best, and confirmed them to be a threat at worst. This potential threat was one of the reasons presented by King Cardinae to the Giants of Malta when he proposed the alliance between his kingdom and the clans of giantfolk. This information is not well-known in modern times (several centuries later), however.
