Airships

Airships are quite common in the world of Malrose . The new world is filled with floating islands means that airships are a must for getting around. They were invented quite early on by the People of the New World because of a lack of any body of water to facilitate trade while monsters made trade through roads risky, the same being applied to travel, thus in order to reduce loss of life, airships were invented as a means of travels, simulating the floating islands but using propellers instead of wind to move quickly.

Power Generation

Aether Ore is utilized to power the propulsion as well as other systems of the ship, thus most Airships use large chunks of the ore encased in metal shells located in the safest part of the hull, as the easiest way to take out an Airship is to take out the Aether Ore.

Propulsion

Large propellers powered by the Aether Ore are used to move quickly forward, while Rudders at the back are used to change the direction of the ship. Due to this, airships aren't typically very manoeuvrable, with manoeuvrability decreasing as size increases.

Weapons & Armament

Most Airships often carry a full complement of cannons/ballistae depending on the budget and capacity of the ships as even though the air safer than the ground in terms of monsters, the few monsters that are present are usually many times as dangerous as any ground monster, ranging from hordes of harpies to wyverns and under the worst case, dragons. Most of these weapons are usually mounted in the hull but some ships have emplacements on the deck to target monsters above the ship.

Armor and defense

To make sure an Airship can safely travel between cities, they tend to be heavily armoured at the hull with armour decreasing as we go up with the deck being practically unarmored. This is done to reduce the weight of the armour while keeping the most vital spots safe and secure.

Communication Tools & Systems

Communication between ship and dock is done by having pre-assigned sending stones which while expensive, are vital to ensure that a city's dock can communicate with the ship without having to practically land on the thing. Each Port city has sending stones on sale for Airship captains but they are usually quite pricey. Ships with long travel routes tend to have an almost unwieldy number of sending stones, though each ship has its own solution to this ranging from Communication rooms to just having them labelled.

Sensors

Most ships are built with spyglasses built-in for long-range recon. While not usually found on the ship, no capable captain would leave the dock without a sextant and a compass on hand though the compass becomes less useful as you travel closer to the Wreath.
