Shar, Goddess of Loss

Goddess of Loss Shar (a.k.a. Loss Itself, Queen of Secrets)

Though aligned towards Evil, Shar is not inherently a malicious entity. She emphasizes the need to accept that losing things, especially precious things, is a natural course of life, and that one shouldn't take things for granted, neither should they try and bring back what they once had lost. Often she is associated with the Raven Queen; A few legends claim that she is a daughter of the Queen.
Shar represents loss in all its forms; The passage of time, the decay of crop, the loss of life, the End itself. One prays to Shar when they wish for the safe passage of their dead to the afterlife, in return for a token of acceptance that they are truly gone; Often having something that is closely associated with that person buried with them.
Equally, though mayhap paradoxically, Shar represents secrets. The loss of information is her virtue, and it is said she knows everything that her followers don't know. Commoners oft hold the belief that if one wishes to gain the favor of Shar, one has to give up a secret, forever losing its memory to her. It is no surprise, then, that her followers in equal trade in information and secrets.
Those that live in close proximity to a monastery of Shar's annually hold a celebration of the dead. They prepare food and create small effigies representing their dead close ones, and honor them using these effigies and food as offerings of gratitude for the time they spent with the living.
